“Karma karo, fal ki chinta mat karo” vaguely translates to ‘Do your job without expecting the fruits in return’. I was awed and confused at the same time when I heard about the concept of Karma. It was pretty straightforward. What goes around comes around. Initially, it made perfect sense. If your deeds are good, you will get the same in return. Not immediately maybe, but sometime soon.Or some years later.Or in your next life. This is where it complicates itself.
If I do a good deed today, I might face bad consequences of the deeds I might have done in my past life. And I have to wait for the results of my good deed for about a lifetime. Finance has taught me to wait for a decade or two for better returns, but a lifetime sounds a tad too much.
And when I do my job without expecting anything in return, where is the motivation? I should perform good deeds for a good karma record, but not expect anything in return. But as I said earlier, good karma is aimed to ultimately get something in return, isn’t it? Pretty confusing.
