Just 140 Mins for the Future

The most competitive exam for getting into a B-school in our country is termed as CAT. This is something which every student of our country wishes to “crack”, because this is a visa for you to be a so called manager.

Let us have a clear picture about what this exam is all about. It is expanded as “Common Aptitude Test”, trying to test your aptitude by different sections of mathematics and English. The time period for the examination is 140mins. In these 140mins your aptitude will be tested and you will be given a verdict whether you deserve to be a manager or not. The funny part begins now. Just to judge your 140mins the time required by them is more than 2 months. The time which you devote to perform in those 140mins cannot be equated in proportionality. You spent more than 6-7 months just reading the basics of mathematics and English not because you don’t know all these stuffs but just because you have to outperform the remaining 2 lac students.

It is not that after the so called verdict is announced which shows how many students are behind you, you will be guaranteed a seat in some renowned institute on the basis of your marks. You have to prepare for something very different from what you have done in the previous 6 months. You need to be aware of the whereabouts of the whole world, about sports, about politics, about everything you have encountered in your past or you may come across in future. Infact u must decide your future and tell it to the interview panelist who may or may not be interested in listening to you. You might be asked about your native place and given a pass to study in the college or you might be asked some technical stuffs in a HR interview and thrown out of the gate. They even have the luxury to just ask your name and tell you to try next year and you can see your whole year wasted running after something which was pulled further away from you.

This is just an example how our system works, u can end up in either side of the road. Students in the Nehru temples are selected on the basis of this system where credibility of the process cannot be questioned. Everything roll down to your luck at the end and nor what we call as hard work and intelligence.

With this type of system we should not expect our managers to reach at the top and should not creep about brain drain. Indians are only praised outside this country and today we have many examples in front of us where Indians are ruling some big MNCs. They have reached because of their hard work and their ability to deliver.
