One hears a lot of different stories about life at B-school, some scary and others inspiring.
I heard mostly those which fall in the former category. If you are working in a 9 to 5 job, people often tend to exclaim that why do you want to put so many efforts and then land up in a job which would have no timings.
Not to demotivate the prospective students, let me present a true picture of life at B-school, in my case life at IMI, Delhi.
As the session began, everything was very exciting and my endorphins levels were generally up, for once again being in a classroom with an opportunity of making so many new friends (after getting bored of looking at same tired faces of colleagues). After a week of honeymoon period, suddenly ‘MBA’ strikes, taking away my nights and the process of interviews and GDs which I thought I have left behind is back like a haunted spirit (probably I was unsuccessful in burning it completely in the graveyard).
The entrance to an MBA college is not enough; to develop a holistic personality one needs to be a part of a club or a committee, whose processes generally go on till late night as during the day we are busy with our classes. As a result, I found myself sleeping in the classes and on weekends (whenever I was lucky enough to have a free weekend).
With no intention of sounding boastful (:-P), time management is the skill now I feel I am expert at. As and when we get even one or two hours free (free = no official engagements), my friends and I venture out and have a gala time (benefit of having the college in South Delhi); following the mantra ‘work hard and party harder.’ Dressed in PJs we would go out to Saket even at 9.00 PM because one friend wants to enjoy Haagen-Dazs. During exams also, we do not devoid ourselves from eating delicacies. Whenever we reach a saturation point because of some subject like business mathematics, we would order chocolate truffle and a pizza from slice of Italy and bribe our burned out brains with Big Boss episodes on TV.
Projects, assignments, presentations are a part of my life now but they no longer scare me as I know it would be done when it has to be. Even if another one gets added to my list, I would just digest it off with another bite of chocolate (;-).
As a whole I would sum it up as a enjoyable and learning experience with full of ambitious and excited people around you and you would definitely enjoy your life @ B-school if you are one of those who love change!
