The National Social Summit is an annual social festival organised by NSS IIT Roorkee, aimed at infusing a culture of social justice and proposing technical and policy solutions to socio-economic problems in India. The event brings together socially active groups from IITs, NITs, NGOs, and activists to discuss and create solutions through panel discussions, case studies, workshops, cultural shows, and more. The 2023 edition of the summit is scheduled to be held from 10th to 12th March 2023, with the theme “Breaking Conventions”.
This year’s theme is devoted to doing something new, different, or unique and looking beyond the conventions of society. The summit envisions overcoming societal obstacles and eradicating various stereotypes and misconceptions through the “Unshackling the future” propaganda. The goal is to speed up the process of adapting “Beyond Convention” in society by bringing numerous cultures together to learn from each other and lead the way to a more open and liberal society for everyone. The summit plans to achieve this through collaborations with various NGOs, organisations, experts, and other stakeholders to tackle contemporary social problems at the ground level.
The event features diverse activities, including unique ones like Action Plan (IIT Roorkee’s interpretation of Shark Tank India), Sociothon (Hackathon), MUN, Debate, Nukkad Natak, Case Study, Policy Case, Work Presentation, E-sports, and Treasure Hunt. Additionally, there will be workshops on AI/ML and Molecular Biology, with a total prize pool of 20 Lac. The conference offers a chance to showcase research findings and connect with other researchers by presenting research papers. Policy case competitions will also be conducted during the event, aimed at promoting critical, analytical, and innovative thinking by presenting policy solutions for genuine social challenges.
The summit has a legacy of hosting great personalities who have shared their words of wisdom on the platform, including Silver medalist at Tokyo Paralympics Devendra Jhajharia, founding director of SECMOL Sonam Wangchuk, ex-director of AIIMS Dr. Randeep Guleria, and more.
This year’s speaker list includes names like Mr. Ashneer Grover, Mr. Amit Lodha, Ms. Rakhi Pal and Mr. Vikas Kakwan.
