JEE Main 2016 swayed bitter sweet emotions for most aspirants The much awaited and much dreaded exam of the year, JEE Main 2016, ended about an hour ago with several shrivelled souls leaving the exam centres with mixed feelings. Today April 3 is the first milestone day for IIT aspirants and as soon as the warning bell rang at 12:20pm, the hordes of parents standing in the scorching sun waiting for their child outside the JEE centre got more anxious and frantic. Aspirants taking the exam gave some mixed reactions regarding the difficulty of the paper.
As goes the old notion, while many students found Chemistry tough, most found Physics difficult. However, amidst the cliched crowd of parents questioning their kids about the paper, there stood a boy, Harshit Shah, all alone waiting for a cab to take him home. “I thought Physics was the easiest to solve compared to the other two sections. I was able to attempts 3/4 of the paper, with maximum questions solved from Physics.”
Students standing around were startled to hear him talk about his triumph over the most dreaded subject in JEE. And to note, that this guy, Harshit, had no formal coaching assistance at all. Two other students from IITians Pace, Hussain Jaffery and Sanket Goghle, were both pretty content with the paper. They said they were able to solve around 50% of the paper correctly which they thought was quite satisfactory. However, as both of them aspired for an IIT, they didn’t consider their attempt up to their credibility.
Some other students gave a thumbs down to Physics and hailed Chemistry or Maths as the easiest. Most of them agreed that the question paper was not very different from what they had practiced in their coaching institutes. Although, despite practicing similar questions in coaching, the exam pressure and time constraint hampered the full display of their skills. Parents standing outside the centre were getting anxious by the minute. When the 12:30 bell rang, one could see their heads peeping into the corridors waiting for their child to come out. Shaheena Jaffery, mother of Hussain said, “My son had given up on social outings or activities in the past couple of months. I too had to alter my schedule as per his needs. If he needed me to be at home while studying or otherwise, then I would change my schedule to suit his needs.”
- Generally, across the country, Physics was the evil one, like every year. “I found the Physics section extremely tough. I could not attempt even one single question in this Section. Instead of attempting the questions and getting them wrong, and losing marks in negative scoring I decided to not attempt. Maths was just better. Chemistry was the easiest of all.” said Juhi K, a candidate who took the paper in Mumbai.
Some students took the risk of attempting all the questions despite the fear of negative marking. “I attempted all the Sections. Though I found Maths to be tough I didn’t skip questions. Chemistry was smooth sailing. I completed it in less than 40 minutes. Physics was okay.” said another candidate Aniket Badhar.
It was however, not such a gloomy picture for a few. “I hardly had time to revise after my Boards exams. I met with an accident and fractured my leg. But I felt my paper went well. I had a classroom on the ground floor. I found the Chemistry section to be easy, Physics slightly tough and Math the toughest of all.” added Soham Gupta, one of the few who felt their paper went well
Sourab Patil, another candidate said that even Chemistry was tough along with Physics. “And Maths was tough to solve.”
