From the time the result of JEE Main 2017 was out on April 27, life kicked into high gear for many engineering aspirants. The media spotlight, unending phone calls and constant downpour of congratulatory messages kept quite a few of them busy for the entire day. Some of them shared their journey to success while some shied away from the sudden fame that they were subjected to. PaGaLGuY brought you the interviews of both the girl and boy topper of JEE Main 2017 yesterday. Today, we got hold of few more top rankers and managed to talk to them and their parents.
All India Rank (AIR) 4 holder, Vedant Rawal is an Ahmedabad boy who studied in PVD Joshi School and always stood first in his class. Along with his good performance at school, he always performed well in his coaching classes as well. But, along with his hard work, there was the constant support and motivation from his parents as well. Vedant’s father Dr Sanjay Rawal is a Physician, while his mother Kanan Rawal, is a private tutor. “I used to teach my son till class 10 and prepared him for his board exams. I used to take tuitions as well. But, I had to take a break from giving tuitions for a year, as I used to accompany my son to the coaching classes he attended,” said Vedant’s mother.
Good in Mathematics, Vedant always wanted to venture either into CA (Chartered Accountant) or Engineering. He decided the later and prepared for it as he dreams of getting admission into the Computer Science Engineering department in IIT Bombay. Along with studies, he loves cricket and is quite confused as how will he focus on JEE Advanced with the IPL final being on the same day (May 21). “He has already booked the date and told us that after he finishes his exam, he will watch the whole match at home,” said a jubilant Kanan.
We wanted to speak to Vedant, but his parents informed that he is focusing on his JEE Advanced preparation and is avoiding even the slightest of distractions.
Securing AIR 5 in JEE Main made the 17-year-old shy small town boy from Uttar Pradesh, Vishwajeet Agarwal, a local hero. Hoards of well wishers and relatives came to his home to wish him after the news spread. Vishwajeet is the eldest son in his family, with a younger brother and sister. He completed his studies in Bharat Public School and wanted to become an engineer from standard eight.
“I was sure of getting over 320 after the examination was over, but never expected as high as 345,” informed Vishwajeet. To beat exam-related stress, he takes relies on spiritual and motivational books. “Regular tests, self study and attending classes made me confident before the JEE Main 2017, and I am expecting to rank under 20-30 in JEE Advanced this year,” said Vishwajeet. He also wants to come study in IIT Bombay and take Computer Science, but not only because he likes the institute but because he loves the city, its culture and people.
For AIR 10, Anany Sharma, the scenario is nothing different. He is getting a lot of calls and messages since yesterday. Hailing from Indore, Anany will soon turn 18 and loves Mathematics. “I wanted to do something that is related to Mathematics and that is how the decision of taking the JEE Main 2017 came in,” informed Anany.
But, when Anany is not studying, he focuses on dancing and writing poetry. He has taken part in many school programmes and functions, and really loves his time on stage. “I don’t preserving my poetries but I love writing them as they are my friends in solitude,” said Anany who is busy with his JEE Advanced preparation as well. He expects to perform well again, with a JEE Advanced ranking of under AIR 50.
