JEE Advanced 2016 student’s sleeves cut to half as a preventive measure

A long list of instructions that included Dos and Don’ts that students appearing for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced 2016 must follow were issued by the authorities conducting the exam well in advance. The list was even posted on JEE website for students’ benefit. It included the dress code and items that a student can carry along with him to the examination hall.

A defiant student in Mysuru still came dressed in full sleeves shirt to take JEE Advanced at Sadvidya College in the city on Sunday. To abide by the instructions issued by JEE authorities, the college authorities and representatives of IIT present at the centre sprung into action and decided to let the student write the exam but only after he got his shirt length chopped to meet the criteria.

PaGaLGuY spoke to DS Narasimha Murthy, Principal of Sadvidya College, Mysuru, about the incident. He said, “We followed the instructions issued by the concerned IIT representative. The security checks are strictly observed. The dress code for the examination was released much in advance but still one candidate chose to defy it.”

On being asked about cutting the shirt, he said, “We gave him two or three options to let him take the exam. However, he was unwilling to part with his “lucky shirt”. To allow him to appear for the exam, we decided, with his consent, to cut the sleeves.”

PaGaLGuY spoke to Chairman, JEE office of IIT Madras (IITM). The exam centre comes under IITM zone. Prof G Markandeyulu said, “We have clear instructions laid out and they are followed. Students were informed well in advance about things they should keep in mind.”

The student had travelled a distance of more than 30 km to reach the exam centre at Sadvidya College. On reaching the centre, he was reminded about the guidelines issued by the authorities for JEE Advanced examinees and could take the exam after getting his shirt sleeves cut to size.
