The Indian School of Business (ISB), Hyderabad announced the completion of placements for class of 2010 of its one-year Post Graduate Program (PGP) in management with a 35% increase in the number of offers, most being in the area of consulting, sales and marketing and technology.
According to the ISB placement report, a total of 346 companies made 541 offers to a graduating batch of 568 students. In 2009, 326 companies had made 401 offers to a batch of 437 students. The institute expanded its intake capacity in between these batches, thus making the class of 2010 the largest ever at ISB. With a 30% increase in batch size and 35% increase in offers, the abundance of jobs on campus shows a marginal improvement over the previous year. In more specific terms, there were three more jobs per 100 students this year over the previous year.
According to the ISB spokesperson, about 15% of the batch secured jobs through independent efforts, with support and encouragement from the institute.
“This is the ninth year that the ISB is using the Rolling Placements System … The system is a lateral hiring process that is spread over several months, giving both the recruiters and the students, time to find the best fit. The result was an increase in the number of offers and the variety of roles that that were offered to the students,” said the ISB press release.
ISB claimed the average domestic salary for the middle 80% of the batch at Rs 16.12 lakhs and the median for the same sample at Rs 16 lakhs. “The middle 80% average does not include jobs at the lowest or highest extremities, thus providing a better idea of salaries earned by most of the batch,” said the ISB spokesperson. The figures are cost-to-company, meaning they also include variable components and perks. According to the institute, the average salary is more than double the average incoming salary.
Of the 346 companies, 78 belonged to the Technology sector, 86 to Banking, Financial Services and Insurance and 46 to Consulting. A large part of the batch received jobs in the Consulting and Sales and Marketing functions. Companies from the Green Energy category also recruited substantial numbers.
