The IIT Madras placement process, which was postponed due to the floods in December 2015, resumed on Wednesday, January 6, 2016, and 286 students were placed.
As per the new schedule, the dates of January 6 – 10, 2016 will have two sessions per day, January 12 – 14, 2016 will have one session per day while January 11 is a break day.
According to a report by the Hindustan the first day saw 117 jobs being offered by 31 companies.
As per a statement made by IIT Madras, a total of 339 offers were made by various companies and 286 students were placed, says a report by DNA India. The report further says that Qualcomm, Intel, Google and US-based research firm MSCI were the leaders in recruitment at the placement session on Wednesday.

The number of students who registered for placements has shown an increasing trend from 919 in 2011-12 to 1019 in 2014-15. The placement statistics in 2014-15 given by the institute show that, while 91.55% of the MBA students got placed, only 23.81% of the Ph.D. scholars got placed. The placement percentages of B Tech and the dual degree students were 83.38% and 87.16 %respectively.
“We had hoped that the recruiters make at least 70 offers and are extremely happy with the result since there were a few concerns about the fact that most of the other IITs were finished with their placements,” said Prof. Babu Viswanathan, IITM Placement Advisor, to The Hindu. “The fact that start-ups, including , UrbanLadder, and Clean Max Solar have come today to recruit has given many of us, who want to be a part of something that is growing, a great opportunity,” a student told the daily.
