We had promised you a reaction Prometric. Read below
“Prometric’s number one priority for delivering the CAT is to provide accurate scores for candidates to differentiate themselves and earn placements in distinguished b-school programmes. For CAT 2013, we have conducted additional quality control to verify that 100% of our reporting is accurate and our methodology is fair, reliable and determines the right scores according to candidate performance. We understand the effort and time candidates give to earn their best possible CAT scores, and we provide a scoring process that is secure, reliable, accurate and recognised as a global best practice. Per IIM direction, it was our job to heighten the exam’s difficulty. As a consequence, only the best performing test takers earned the highest scores.
CAT 2013’s two sections were designed to assess different abilities, consistent with previous years of the test. For example, success in Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation does not dictate success in Verbal Ability & Logical Reasoning. Detailed information can be found on the IIM CAT website, at http://www.cat2013.iimidr.ac.in/testduration_patterns.htm. CAT, as a tool used to identify the very best test takers, is not a measure of average scores.
Scoring for CAT 2013 is equated to ensure fairness across multiple test forms, which ensures greater security and integrity of candidates’ scores. If candidates choose not to answer a single question on their exams, it remains our responsibility to deliver them a score. Hence, a candidate with zero response automatically gets a 0 raw score – within the entire range from [-30, +90]. This is then adjusted (to eliminate negative scores), equated(to provide fairness across different form difficulty levels) and scaled (to give a final range from 0-225 in any section).
For example, a zero response candidate will get a positive score. The fact that percentiles may be higher than 50-percentile is not unusual, owing to the difficulty of this exam. As a provider of testing and assessment for more than 350 organizations around the world, we have experienced this in prior years as well.
More information on CAT 2013 difficulty and scoring for all candidates can be found on the IIM CAT website, at http://www.cat2013.iimidr.ac.in/dev_scorind_equityprocess_1.htm and http://www.cat2013.iimidr.ac.in/dev_scorind_equityprocess.htm
Prometric remains committed to ensuring fairness and reliability to best serve honest candidates seeking to accomplish their education and career goals.”
