IIM Shillong goofs up its tech again, sends result declaration email mistakenly

IIM Shillong

Candidates in the final stages of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Shillong admissions were a confused lot on Tuesday after receiving two consecutive emails from the school, one declaring the release of the final results and the other refuting the first.

“I got the first mail, which said that the IIM Shillong results are out at around 2:15 pm. However, when I tried to log in to the result page on the institute website, I was redirected to an error that read ‘Invalid credentials’,” Sandeep Gang, a candidate told PaGaLGuY. He added that till the time he received the second email almost an hour later, he was extremely confused about where he should check his result.

SG Harsha, another candidate added that nobody at the institute was responding to phone calls to resolve the confusion until the school sent the second email, which said, “You might have received a mail informing you that the final result for the PGP (2013-15) admission process of IIM Shillong has been declared. This is to inform you that the said result has not been declared, and the mail was the result of a technical error due to our server.”

Explaining the situation, Merlvin Jude Mukhim, IIM Shillong spokesman told PaGaLGuY, “Due to a technical error, an auto-generated email was sent to the database of aspirants for the PGP course at the institute. However, as soon as the admission team realised this, they sent another email to apologise for the confusion and clarify the doubt.”

This is not the first time that IIM Shillong has goofed up on technology during this admission season. Earlier this year, the institute had to delay its admission process by a day due to the problems faced by candidates while submitting their application forms to the institute.

Asked why the school could not keep its applicant-facing technology glitch-free, Merlvin said that there were some technical faults that one just could not completely control. “The final results should be declared soon,” he added.
