Owing to a clash in interview calls from some prominent b-schools in the country, the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Raipur, the nodal point for admissions to the younger IIMs this year, has said that it will consider a date change request provided the interview call coincides with calls from the older IIMs or if the aspirants have some medical problems.
The six younger IIMs, SP Jain Institute of Management and Research (SPJIMR), Mumbai and Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS), Mumbai have their interviews scheduled for February 15, 2013. While NMIMS released its dates on January 24, 2013, SP Jain booking slot opened on January 31, 2013 and the younger IIMs were the last to announce their interview process on February 2, 2013.
Madhav Narayanan, student co-ordinator, admissions team, IIM Raipur, explains the rationale behind considering requests for date change. He says,” The decision has been made because the younger IIMs are ultimately a part of the larger IIM fraternity. Although the admission team has decided to make a consideration for the older IIMs, we cannot say with surety that all date change requests will be processed,” he said.
He added that the younger IIMs have called around 10,000 aspirants for the interview process. “The b-school has received a number of requests to change interview dates. However, it is not possible to accommodate such a large number of people,” Madhav said.
“I have already booked my tickets to Mumbai for the NMIMS interview. Now, I have my GD/ PI for the younger IIMs on the same day in Delhi. I do not know what to do,” an aspirant from Delhi told PaGaLGuY on the condition of anonymity. He further informed that he has been trying to convince IIM Raipur for a date change but was unsuccessful.
Questioned about their course of action, SPJIMR insists that it will not face too much of a problem. “We have our interviews scheduled across four cities. If any of the candidates face any problems, it is our duty to accommodate them,” Abbasali S Gabula, Deputy Director, External Relations and Administration, at SPJIMR said. The b-school has given calls to more than 2000 aspirants.
