A brief glimpse of Intaglio events –
OLYMPUS – The Quest for the Best Leader across the IIMs
The single most important manifestation of this year’s Intaglio theme (Reaching out… Staying Ahead) has been the launch of the biggest event ever across all B-schools in the country – Olympus! It is an interesting battlefield where the six candidates (one from each IIM) battle it out for the highest honours, and a handsome prize money of Rs. 150,000.
The first round of Olympus involved shortlisting of three candidates from each IIM, on the basis of the candidate profiles and curriculum vitae. Thereafter, voting was held in each IIM to judge the leadership abilities of the candidates on the grounds of the support they generated from their own college-mates, to choose the one representative from each IIM.
The rounds on campus from Jan 4th – 5th will test each candidate’s analytical skills, the team leadership abilities and also the ability to undertake stress and deliver his / her best. A panel of judges consisting of top notch industry officials, government officials, media and faculty would evaluate these candidates and then arrive at the final winner who shall walk away in glory.
Olympus is more than just another event that hunts for the next CEO/Leader. It will set new standards in concept, execution and scale. Team Intaglio is committed to make sure that this event remains unmatched in prize, popularity, substance and hospitality. Over the years, Intaglio intends to make it the platform for potential leaders to prove their worth – synonymous with the word ‘Leadership’. (Event Partner: Reliance Industries Limited)
WIZARDS OF BIZ – Business Simulation at its best
Wizards of Biz is a showcase event of Intaglio and one of the few completely online events in the country. It saw some of the largest participation across all campuses. A humungous 507 teams registered for the prelims which were played online and quizzed the teams across verticals like Finance, Marketing, Strategy, etc. The 50 finalist teams played the finals on a simulation platform MAGNUS professionally developed by the international firm Decisionware Simulation and Games. This ultimate test of business acumen was won by a team from XLRI (Jamshedpur), followed by teams from MDI (Gurgaon) and IIM-Bangalore. (Event Partner: Johnson and Johnson)
EMPIRES OF THE MIND – Game Theory put to Test
Understanding of Game theory is very important for the formation of the strategy of any company, and this is what Intaglio is testing its participants on, in the final round of the event ‘Empires of the Mind’. It is centered on the development of a Special Economic Zone where in the teams will represent states of a country and will bid for companies to attract them to set up an SEZ in their state. It tests their ability to outguess their opponents’ moves in order to win the bid. The elimination round of this strategy event was basically a set of puzzles, in the form of a popular board game, and at the end of it, six teams have been selected to be a part of the final round.
CONSULTING KNIGHTS – Premier Strategy Case Contest
Consulting Knights is the premier strategy based flagship case study contest where the six best teams will meet head on to prove their mettle as the future consultants to be judged by the distinguished panel from The Boston Consulting Group. In the elimination round, the teams had to develop a strategy based on the situation or problem faced by a company in the Sports industry. Top six teams were selected based on their analyses of real-life business dynamics, the best possible value proposition or technology and the kind of package they intend to serve the market with. In the final round, the panel from the Boston Consulting Group, acting as a client, will test these teams based on the skills of the participants, their ability to think on their feet while handling questions, case analysis, corporate etiquettes, and the ever-so-important consulting candidature. It is not just a test of the participant team’s case solving ability but their ability to understand the client’s character and skillfully tackle their queries.
WAR OF THE WORLDS – Rule over Virtual Empires
More than 400 teams registered from across the globe to participate in war of the worlds. The teams were from institutes ranging from various Indian B schools, international colleges like Wharton, National University of Singapore, Carnegie Mellon University, Asian Institute of Management, Owen Graduate School of Management, and corporates like Crisil and Deutsche Bank.
War of the worlds was an extremely challenging game where each participant team acted as an emperor of their country, with the aim of leading their country to the path of economic development. The teams competed with each other to get the global market share of different industries and services. What made the game further interesting was the optimization required in investments in welfare, agriculture and infrastructure. Taking decisions like pricing strategy, capacity and production levels not only required knowledge of economics and financial analysis but also practical understanding of game theory.
