It’s finally here, the audited and mind-bogglingly detailed placement reports of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad’s PGP, PGP Agri-business and PGPX batches graduating in 2011. The report is based on the Placement Reporting Standards proposed and finalized at IIM Ahmedabad in June 2011 and has been audited by credit-rating firm CRISIL.
Quick overview of the PGP batch placements
– Consulting, Finance largest recruiters at 31% each. FMCG took 12%. From total accepted offers of 304.
– Fixed components of domestic salaries — Median: Rs 13.50 lakhs | Mean: Rs 14.22 lakhs | Lowest: Rs 7 lakhs | Highest: Rs 32 lakhs
– Maximum earning potential (total salary, combining fixed and variable components): Median: Rs 15.15 lakhs | Mean: Rs 16.36 lakhs | Lowest: Rs 8 lakhs | Highest: Rs 37 lakhs
– Those in Operations roles will take home the highest median fixed salary at Rs 16.5 lakhs, Lowest in the Sales/Marketing role at Rs 12.996 lakhs.
– Of 286 offers where location was confirmed, 26 were international with 14 in South-East Asia.
– Of all Indian cities, Hyderabad postings yielded the highest median fixed salary at Rs 16.5 lakhs.
– 7 starting their own business, 2 looking for a job on their own.
Most pieces of statistics in the report use varying data points, ostensibly due to varying responses from companies. That is bound to make it impossible to draw insights from multiple parameters.

While IIM Ahmedabad is the only b-school to have reported their placements using the standards, as many as 22 b-schools have announced that they will use them next year. Prominent among them are IIM Shillong, IMT Ghaziabad, SP Jain Mumbai, TAPMI Manipal, TISS Mumbai and XIM Bhubhaneswar.
