Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) in collaboration with Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) has launched MBA in Management Accounting and Finance to cater to the growing demand of globally relevant qualifications in finance and accounts. The aim of this programme is to enhance employability of learners, bridge the gap between programmes currently available and programmes required by the market and address current as well as emerging needs of the market.
Since its establishment in 1985, IGNOU has contributed significantly to the development of higher education in the country through the Open and Distance Learning (ODL) mode. The ‘People’s University’ follows a learner-centric approach and has successfully adopted a policy of openness and flexibility in entry qualifications, time taken for completion of a programme, and place of study.
CIMA (Chartered Institute of Management Accountants) is a leading membership body that offers a globally recognised professional management accounting qualification. The CIMA professional qualification lays emphasis on creating financially qualified business leaders. CIMA, founded in the UK in 1919, is the voice of over 183,000 students and members in 168 countries and is responsible for education and training of management accountants.
CIMA qualified management accountants have an excellent understanding of finance and business. They use this to shape the future of their organisations. They have a broad business perspective, and excellent employment opportunities around the world. With its emphasis on strategic business skills, a CIMA qualification widens career options, in and outside of finance.
The curriculum for the 2 years masters degree programme is developed jointly by IGNOU and CIMA. It will lead to a dual qualification, i.e. an MBA from IGNOU and an Advanced Diploma in Management Accounting from CIMA. The dual qualification enables students to find jobs in the country as well as opens doors to international careers. Students can look forward to working with leading organisations across the globe.
The course will be offered through distance learning mode and graduates in any discipline with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks from a recognised university (45% for reserved category) can apply for this course. Students in final year of graduation may also apply for a provisional admission. They must submit their final year results not later than 31 Aug 2011.
All eligible applicants will be required to appear for a written test conducted by IGNOU.
