That skyline is the reason why I fell in love with Hong Kong. Whenever someone asks – “How is Hong Kong?”, I always reply – “Hong Kong is a cleaner, taller, bigger and brighter version of Bombay”. Both were British bred cities and maybe that’s the reason Hong Kong reminds me of Bombay.
That tall building above, it’s the Batman building. Remember this?
The metro, called MTR, is the busiest and quietest public transit I have ever been on. Even in the busiest hours, there’s pin drop silence in the metro. It’s the same silence our school teachers always wanted, but never got.
Space “is” costly. Costly might be an understatement, it’s uber expensive. A ~200 square feet service apartment costs 15,000 HKD ~ 1,05,000 INR, a month. But daily commodities like groceries, food, phones, internet are cheap. Maybe cheaper than Bombay or any other metro in India.
I think this is one those remnants of the British era.
Most of the shopping streets I have been to, Nathan Road, Causeway Bay, Mong Kok, just have cosmetic stores and women clothing stores and maybe a few restaurants. I never could figure out where men shop in Hong Kong.
Private space is an expensive commodity in Hong Kong. Please just prefer to hang out in public spaces – beaches, parks causeways etc in the evenings and weekends.
