-I am 28 now, so obvious questions are troubling me these days “So, Abhishek now that you have completed your MBA, working in a MNC and earning good amount of money, you are well settled. Get married soon”. And then came that day when i got a shock of my life, my grandmother called and asked “Are you dating someone? When are you getting married? I want to see your wife before i die”(I am sure the next milestone would be my kids)… but that’s how life is in India right? You get married to please others than to please yourself; more so will be the case with girls i guess… (though i am not an expert in this matter :P)
So what is marriage in India ? “Saat janmo ka rishta”, “Do atmao k milan” sounds more like serials on star plus.. I will tell you what marriage in India means, it’s a festival… Yeah absolutely.. Festivals for others, where else will most people get to show-off their shiny clothes and ornaments.. It’s also a potential hunting ground for bachelors/their parents looking for the suitable ONE…
It’s a season, India may or may not have a monsoon season but it will have 2/3 wedding seasons for sure.. few months of the year you have to attend marriages almost every week and hence sometimes people start attending marriages selectively sometime on the basis of food(non-veg wedding and veg wedding),is it a friend’s wedding or distant relatives and sometimes even the distance of the venue from their house..
Most people in India like me come to learn about these wedding seasons mostly due to huge jams on roads… I reach so late most of the time that i can’t attend a wedding even if i want to (sometimes mom calls me and says “tu late hogya hai, thodi der k liye aja, khana khane :/”…”.chicken acha bana hai” ?
The ones getting married are clicking pics to put on FB, adding life events on FB, comparing number of likes with their friends’ having added similar statuses and pics few days back. Most of the people on FB discuss about total mismatch between the girl and guy either ways, most point to money factor being important in such decisions and some even try to find things like who was this guy/girl dating earlier, what happened to his/her love story.
People are so busy planning for their weddings, estimating costs , deciding on menu, inviting people, arranging for caterer and pandits etc…..they forget that it may be a festival or a season for others but for them its life…
Take your time in making the most important decisions in life… There is no right age, salary or time for getting married; it’s a decision which needs a lot of love and trust… Build a relationship first and then think if you can spend rest of your life, being committed to that person.
