GATE or the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering is a national level examination conducted jointly by IISc (Indian Institute of Science) Bangalore and 7 IITs (Indian Institute of Technology) under the National Cooperation Board, Department of Higher Education in India.
This examination is important and mandatory to assess the understanding and abilities of graduates in engineering, architecture and other similar fields of science who wish to pursue post graduation in engineering, architecture or technology, PhDs and even for being recruited in Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs).
The organizing institute for the GATE 2020 examination is IIT Delhi (IITD). The authorities at IIT Delhi have officially announced the date for the opening of the application correction window online which is Tuesday, 15th of October 2019 onwards. All candidates who had applied for the GATE 2020 examination and had made some minor errors in the application form can now change it easily from Tuesday.
As per the official announcement of IIT Delhi on the official website www.gate.iitd.ac.in, applicants shall be able to make minor changes like changing the spelling of one’s name, father’s name, name of the college, etc., through the correction window. However, there is no confirmation regarding what other kinds of changes will be allowed to be made by the candidates. There is also no confirmation or mention of whether this process of making changes in the form will entail any additional fees.
In order to be able to make alterations and changes in their online application forms, candidates will have to log on to the official website of GATE 2020 as mentioned above or go to the GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS) at www.appsgate.iitd.ac.in.
The GATE 2020 admit card will be released on the 3rd of January 2020, and the GATE 2020 examination for all 25 subjects or papers will be held in February across different dates- 1st, 2nd, 8th and 9th February 2020.

Earlier, at the time of application, it was clearly stated that no changed would be allowed in the form once it is submitted and hence there was no news about any possibility of corrections in the application forms. However, the FAQ section of the official website of GATE mentioned the availability of application correction details on the website itself.
Another important thing to note here is that the applicants shall be permitted to change the preference for their city of examination entered in the form by paying an additional fee which will be possible till the 15th of November, 2019. For other changes, the window will close earlier than November 15.

Candidates should also take note of the fact that certain details like the name of one’s college, may appear in half (or cut out) on the downloaded copy of the submitted application. This, however, should not be thought of as an error as it may happen in certain cases due to the character limit of the downloaded form.
