GATE 2017 Electrical Engineering exam review | Candidates speak

The Civil Engineering paper of the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2017 is being conducted today, February 12, in multiple sessions by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee. Candidates who took the forenoon session from 9am to 12pm, say the paper was easy, lengthy, and that General Aptitude was easier than the technical section.

Parmar Dhaval Prakashchandra, from Himmatnagar, Sabarkantha, Gujarat, who took the Civil Engineering exam today, said, “Overall the paper was easy, but it was a bit lengthy. The General Aptitude questions were easier than the technical section’s. I attempted 51 out of 65 questions.”

He continued, “I don’t think I will lose marks in the GA section, and almost all the topics were covered in the technical section. Luckily, I prepared Geotechnical engineering topic well; it was for 12 marks. So, I have got those marks also covered.

Another candidate, Parth Vegad, from Rajkot, Gujarat, said, “The difficulty level of today’s paper was between easy to moderate. I attempted 38 out of 65 questions.”

Vegad continued, “There were a good number of questions from Structural, Geomatics, and Transportation Engineering, and even the Numerical and Verbal Ability questions were easy. Generally, they are a little confusing.”

GATE is an all-India examination, and its score is used for admissions to various post-graduate courses in Science and Engineering. GATE scores are also used by several Indian Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) for recruiting graduate engineers in entry-level positions.

PSUs like BPCL (Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited) , IOCL (Indian Oil Corporation Limited), ONGC (Oil and Natural Gas Corporation), Power Grid, HPCL (Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited), HAL (Hindustan Aeronautics Limited), NHAI (National Highways Authority of India), NPCIL (Nuclear Power Corporation of India) are recruiting graduate engineers through Civil Engineering GATE 2017.
