Education Abroad an Overview Part-1

Make a dashing march for foreign education!

Foreign education gives an opportunity to get new acquaintances with new languages, cultures and friendships along with getting quality education. This is the reason that more than 4 lakhs of Indian students are getting admissions into foreign Universities. This figure is increasing at a stable rate during the last 5 years. This is the right time for starting the application procedure for those who get equipped with the necessary qualifications!!!

Final year degree students have 2 choices before them. First one is – search for employment and second one is to go for higher studies. For higher studies again there are two choices – 1) Prosecuting studies in our country and 2) Study in a foreign country. Students intending to go abroad for further studies should know the procedures and requirements and draw a plan accordingly.

Broadly, to get admission in a foreign country, there are 8 important points to be taken note of.

1. A good percentage of marks

2. Proof of proficiency in English (IELTS/ TOFEL)

3. GRE/ GMAT/ SAT/ ACT score prescribed by the concerned University/ department

4. Recommendation letters

5. Documents showing proof of sufficient financial resources

6. Statement of Purpose

7. Resume

8. Document of confirmation of relevant experience (only to those to whom it is applicable)

Which country?

Students aspiring to have foreign education according to their eligibility based needs have opportunities in more than 15 countries. This is the opportune time to select a country, start handling the various procedures and complete the submission of application process.

Students from our country mostly choose the following important countries for their higher education:

* USA

* Germany

* Sweden

* Austria

* Canada

* Australia

* New Zealand

* UK

* Ireland

* Singapore

* France

Timing schedules for admissions:

Student should first decide the country in which he wishes to prosecute higher studies. Many of the countries start next cycle of admissions soon after the first round is over. Many foreign educational institutions start the admission process in July or September.

USA: August/ September and next January

Germany: September/ October and next March

Canada: September and next January

Australia/ New Zealand: July/ August and next November ( in some Universities February/ March)

US: September/ October and next January

Singapore: July and next October, January

Most of the countries start the admissions in September/ October.

Even though multiple admission processes are taken up in a year, admissions in large numbers will be taken up in July and September. Students also show a lot of interests to get admissions in the July and September courses for the reason that apart from the multiple options available during those months, time also will not be get wasted after completion of the courses.

Application process …

By now, you selected the country and thoroughly understood the admission process. The next and important task is to complete the application submission process well before the specified closing date and time. Admission closing dates vary with the countries and the educational institutes selected. It is important that the process should be started only after getting complete clarifications in all the related matters. Make a note to assess the time to be taken for VISA process and getting it.

Courses in our country will be completed by April, May months. Student start their planning for foreign admission only after April, May months, which may cost them losing admissions in July/ September. Keep everything ready, plan every process beforehand and start the application submission process immediately. Delayed submission may enforce the student to get admission only in some small and no so famous educational institution. Hence make a careful note of the importance of the timing for applying. It is therefore necessary that planning is taken up even before December month for a hassle-free admission.
