*Director’s Interview – Mr. Deepak Nanwani Co-Founder , MyPrepMate*
What are the top challenges that you want to solve today through your institution?
We feel that the major challenge that the students face today is the lack of a personalised preparation programme. Students in India are used to studying in a classroom environment with 30-40 other students. This is not a bad thing per se. But in this environment the personal needs of a student are not recognised, since it is almost impossible for a teacher to understand the requirements of each and every individual student.
This is where we utilize technology to cater to a student’s individual needs. We provide a solution that supplements the classroom teaching through personalization of analysis, recommendations and test taking. This analysis can be used by the student to better understand individual strengths and weaknesses – thereby improving scores quicker. Teachers can also use these analysis reports to help students in performing better.
What kind of mentorship you provide to your students?
After talking to a lot of CAT aspirants we realised that there are three major needs of a student in terms of mentoring and guidance.
The first one is structuring your preparation – knowing what to study and when. The second is guidance on exam taking strategy. We achieve these two objectives through our smart analytics engine that tracks a student’s performance across tests and topics and then generates dynamic study recommendations. As a student works based on these recommendations, we keep tracking the student’s performance and provide more study tips to improve faster.
The third area where most students need guidance and help is test analysis. While most students are able to do a basic level of analysis on their own we leverage technology to provide comprehensive analysis – question wise, topic wise, overall. This helps a student improve by clearly identifying strong areas and areas of improvement.
How are you different from the standard test preparation courses available in the market?
The standard test preparation courses available in the market are just that – standard. We leverage cutting edge technology to provide more efficient test preparation and better results. Through our adaptive engine we ensure that our assessment of a student’s proficiency is very accurate since each test is tailor made to the student’s ability and potential areas of improvement.
The other key feature is that our technology enables us to provide accurate personalized feedback to the aspirant – something that is not available in a classroom environment where the individual needs get lost in a group. We have also devised a ‘Probability of Improvement®’ score which tells a student the topics where the student can improve the fastest by putting in a little extra effort. This kind of analysis can only be provided through technology and this is what differentiates us from the standard test preparation courses.
What’s your biggest achievement as a part of this Institution?
The biggest achievement has been the fact that we have been able to reach out to over 6000 students and administer over half a million questions. This has proved not only the robustness of our test engine but also validated the fact that the really serious aspirants are ready to take advantage of cutting edge technology and in depth analytic to achieve better results. It proves that use of great technology will lay the foundation of the future of education.
What is the unique thing about your institution which makes you stand out from others?
I think this uniqueness stems from the extremely robust algorithm that we use. Not only does it help us customize each test as per the student’s abilities. But it also helps us with accurate assessments and providing accurate and useful tips and recommendations. A lot of our users have come back and told us what they expect from a good CAT/GMAT prep product. And we have consistently upgraded our product based on this feedback.
