1. Larry Page is business person of the year for 2014

i. According to Fortune magazine, Chief
Executive Officer (CEO) and co-founder of Google, Larry Page has emerged as the
‘business person of the year’ for 2014.

ii. Larry Page topped the list of 20 global
corporate leaders compiled on the basis of various factors, including
the company’s performance, leadership style and total shareholder returns, the
magazine said while releasing its list.

iii. Alibaba Co- founder Jack Ma, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Apple’s Tim Cook, fast food
chain Chipotle co-CEOs – Montgomery Moran and Steve Ells – and Fedex chairman
& CEO Fred Smith were also in the race for the title.

iv. Amazon’s Jeff
Bezos, who won the Fortune list in 2012, failed to make it to the top 20 list.

Note: The list is
based on various parameters like financial results of the company, including
12-month and three year growth in profits and revenues, company’s stock
performance and total shareholder returns over the same periods.

2. Indian Team
for World Cup 2015 announced

i. BCCI
today announced the 15 member team for the ICC
World Cup 2015.

ii. Yuvraj Singh and Murali Vijay were unlucky and could not make it to
India’s 15 member team for the World Cup.

iii. The 2015 World Cup is scheduled to be held from
February 14 to March 29 in Australia and New Zealand.

iv. The first match of the World Cup will be played
between New Zealand and Sri Lanka.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni (C), Shikhar Dhawan,
Rohit Sharma, Ajinkya Rahane, Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina, Ambati Rayudu,
Ravindra Jadeja, R Ashwin, Akshar Patel, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammad Shami,
Ishant Sharma, Stuart Binny and Umesh Yadav.

3. Raosaheb
Patil Danve named new Maharashtra BJP chief


i. Union minister Raosaheb Patil
Danve was today appointed the new BJP chief of Maharashtra. He succeeded Devendra
Fadnavis.

ii.
The Maharashtra BJP chief’s post
was vacant after Devendra Fadnavis become the state Chief
Minister.

4. Dubai’s
longest chain enters Guinness World Records

i. A gold chain hand-made in Dubai has entered Guinness
World Records as the world’s longest chain.

ii. The chain, which set the record with a total
length of 5.522 kilometers, has more than 4 million links and is made of 22 carat gold.
It weighs 256 kg.

iii. The achievement by the Dubai Gold and Jewellery Group in
collaboration with the Dubai Festival and Retail Establishment marks the 20th anniversary
of the Dubai Shopping Festival.

5. Sutirtha
Bhattacharya new CMD of Coal India Limited

i. Sutirtha Bhattacharya, a 1985 batch IAS officer of
Andhra Pradesh cadre, took charge as Coal India Limited’s full-time
Chairman and Managing Director (CMD).

ii. The post was vacant for over six months.

Note: Coal India Limited (CIL) is an Indian
state-controlled coal mining company headquartered in Kolkata, West Bengal,
India. It is the largest coal producer in the world and contributes
around 81% of the coal production in India.

Shrikrishna clinches the National Sub-Junior Billiards title 2015

i. S Shrikrishna defeated Ishpreet Singh Chadha to win the
National Sub-Junior Billiards title 2015.
