1. Death anniversary of Mother Teresa observed in Kolkata

(i) Mother Teresa, the founder of missionaries of charity who devoted 45 years of her life in service of the poor, sick, orphaned and dying passed away on September 5th, 1997 in Kolkata. 

(ii) With a view to mark her 18th death anniversary a mass prayer was held in the Chappel of Missionaries of Charity on September 5th, 2015. 

2.  India fairs dismally low on recent report by World Economic Forum

(i) A two year study on income inequality was released recently by the World Economic Forum (WEF) and India faired dismally low on it. 

(ii) India ranked 37th  as per the report titled Inclusive Growth and Development Report 2015, out of 38 lower-middle-income countries in fiscal transfers. 

(iii) The category of “Asset building and entrepreneurship”, in particular the sub-pillar “Small business ownership” India ranked at the bottom of the 38  lower middle income countries groups. 

3. India to allow Bangladesh and Pakistan refugees to stay in country on humanitarian ground

(i) The central government has decided to allow refugees belonging to minority communities from neighbouring Bangladesh and Pakistan to stay in India despite the expiry of their visas  on humanitarian grounds. 

(ii) As per the latest decision, the refugees who have entered India on or before December 31, 2014 would be allowed to stay without papers.

4. Anil Ambani’s RDL signs MoU with Abu Dhabi Ship Building

(i) On September 7, Anil Ambani-led Reliance Defence Ltd (RDL) signed an MoU with Abu Dhabi Ship Building to set up a strategic partnership for construction of naval ships including frigates and destroyers to meet the demands of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) in the next decade.  

(ii) Abu Dhabi Ship Building (ADSB) is a leading provider of construction, repair and refit services for naval, military and commercial vessels based in UAE and RDL is fully owned subsidiary of Reliance Infrastructure limited, India.  

(iii) A statement by RDL also clarified that, the agreement could also see ADSB delivering maintenance, repair, overhaul and refit services to the vessels, in line with regional requirements.

5. UK largest FDI investor in India of all G20 countries

(i) As per the rect data released, UK has become the largest investor in India among all G20 countries. 

(ii) Between the year 2000 -2015, UK’s FDI to India made for 9% of the total FDI in the country –  $22 billion. 

(iii) Of the total 73.9 billion dollars invested by G20 countries, largest sum was invested by UK, followed by Japan ($ 18.3 billion), US ($13.7billion), Germany ($ 7.6 billion) and France ($ 4.5 billion). 

6. International Literacy Day observed on September 8th

(i) Every year September 8, is globally celebrated as the International Literacy Day. 

(ii) The day is celebrated with a view to highlight the importance of literacy to individuals, communities and societies. 

 (iii) n India, President Pranab Mukherjee is to present the the National Literacy award, 2015 to Bastar district of Chhattisgarh. 

7. South Africa’s Black Mambas to receive 2015 UNEP Champions of the Earth Award

(i) On September 7th, 2015 the Black Mamba Anti Poaching unit (APU) of South Africa was awarded the 2015 UNEP Champions of the Earth award in the inspiration and action category.

(ii) The unit was recognised for its all woman unit for anti poaching effort, its efforts in combating poaching activities and for protecting the wildlife. 

(iii) It was established in 2013, and it stands as a shining example of the commitment of the government,private and local community to the eradicating the poaching of rhinos in South Africa

8. Jairam Ramesh releases his book titled To the Brink and Back: India’s 1991 Story

(i) To the Brink and Back: India’s 1991 Story, a book authored by congress minister and former Union Environment and Forest Minister Jairam Ramesh was launched earlier in September 2015.

(ii) The book gives a first hand account from Ramesh’s experience when he was a part of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) during his first 90 days in the Narasimha Rao’s government .

(iii) It traces the economic developments that took place in the economic sector when the duo Narasimha and Manmohan Singh were at the helm of affairs.

9. Indian boxer Vikas Krishnan bags a silver at the Asian Championship

(i) Indian boxer Vikas Krishan (75kg) settled for a silver medal against Uzbekistan’s Bektemir Melikuziev in a neck to neck summit clash of the Asian Championships, Bangkok.

(ii) India’s medal tally includes one silver and three bronze medals of which Vikas Krishan won the silver,  L Devendro Singh (49kg), Shiva Thapa (56kg) and Satish Kumar (+91kg) brought home a bronze. 

10. Nadal crashes earliest  exit from US Open in 10 years

(i) Two time US open champion Rafael Nadal crashed his earliest in 10 years in the US Open 2015 when Italy’s Fabio Fognini pulled off 3-6, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-4 victory.

(ii) Apart from shocking Nadal defeat, David Ferer was defeated  by Geremy Chardy 7-6,4-6,6-3,6-1 in third round.
