1. LC Goyal
appointed new Home Secretary

i. LC Goyal appointed  as the new Union Home Secretary of India. He
replaced Anil Goswami.

ii. Anil Goswami was removed by the Government for
his alleged interference in Saradha scam probe.

iii. LC Goyal is presently serving as Secretary
in the Union Ministry of Rural Development and has served in various ministries
including the Ministry of Finance & Company Affairs and Cabinet
Secretariat.

Note: Former Home Secretary Anil Goswami was
sacked for trying to interfere in the multi-crore Saradha chit fund scam probe
and stopping the arrest of a senior Congress leader. He was sacked by the
Narendra Modi government on Wednesday night.

2. China surpasses
US as top investment destination

i. According to the United Nations Conference
of Trade and Development report China has overtaken the United States as the
top destination for foreign direct investment for the first time since 2003.

ii. According to the report foreign firms
invested 128 billion dollars in China and 86 billion in the US last year.

3. Justice MM
Das to head Commission of Inquiry probing Chit Fund Scam

i. Odisha government appointed Justice Madan Mohan Das to
head the Commission of Inquiry probing multi-crore chit fund scam in Odisha.

ii. The post was vacant after the death of Justice Radha
Krishna Patra on January 28.

4. Anail Baijal
Panel to
suggest a
framework to assess CSR activities

i. Government constituted a Anail Baijal panel to
suggest a framework to assess Corporate Social Responsibilities (CSR)
activities.

ii. The panel will evaluate money spent on CSR
activities by the companies and will also give suitable methodologies for
monitoring compliance of the CSR provisions.

5. Gaur Hari
Singhania, Chairman of JK group passed away

i. Gaur Hari Singhania died due to heart attack in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh.
He was 80.

ii. He
was a Chairman of JK group. He was the
president of JK Organisation and a promoter director of JK Cement Ltd since its
inception in 1994.
