1. 
Rs. 1,000 minimum monthly pension scheme continue by the Govt

i. The government of India today decided to continue, Rs. 1,000 minimum monthly pension social security scheme which is run by Employment Provident Fund Organisation.

ii. Earlier, the EPFO has suspended the 1,000 rupees minimum monthly pension scheme from this month.

iii. The scheme was launched on September 2014, hiking the pension amount to a flat 1,000 rupees per month for those who were getting lower amount earlier.

iv. With this step, over 20 lakh pensioner will be get benefitted under the scheme.

2. PNB become first bank to implement Sukanya Samriddhi Scheme 

i. The Punjab National Bank has become the first bank to start opening Sukanya Samriddhi Scheme accounts. The scheme was launched by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi in January this year.

ii. The Reserve Bank of India had sent a circular to the heads of all the commercial banks, pelling out the operational guidelines of the Sukanya scheme. Till now no other bank has implement the scheme, except PNB.

iii. Sukanya scheme is a girl child scheme only open to girls below 10 years. For this year, the government has allowed a grace period of one year so even girls up to 11 are eligible.

iv. More than two lakh Sukanya accounts have been opened in Post Offices since the scheme was launched.

3. World Bank forecast India’s GDP growth at 7.5% in 2015/16

i. The World Bank forecasted India’s GDP growth at 7.5% in current fiscal.

ii. According to the World Bank India Development update report, “India’s GDP growth rate expected to increase to 7.5% cent in 2015-16, followed by further acceleration to 7.9 per cent in 2016-17 and 8 per cent in 2017-18.

iii. The government of India has projected India’s GDP growth rate at 8.5% in this current fiscal.

iv. The World Bank Country Director for India, Onno Ruhl said that; “The government of India has made development in several policy areas and long term prospects remain bright for India.”

4. BCCI banned Sunil Narine from bowling off-spinners

i. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has banned the West Indies player Sunil Narine, from bowling off-spinners in all matches organised by the BCCI, including the ongoing IPL.

ii. According to the IPL (Indian Premiere League) Suspected Illegal Bowling Action Policy, the Committee has concluded that Narine’s bowling action for his off-spinner, contravenes Law 24.2 (as read with Law 24.3) of the Laws of Cricket and therefore the player is now banned from bowling the off-spinner in matches organised by the BCCI, including the IPL.

iii. The BCCI has said in a statement that; Sunil Naraine can continue bowling his other deliveries (the knuckle ball and the quicker straight ball).

Note: Earlier the BCCI has banned Sunil Naraine, whose ‘doosra’ was under the scanner in 2014 Championship League T20 and was not allowed to play in the final.

5. Nursultan Nazarbayew won the President election for fifth time

i. Incumbent President of Kazakhstan has won the Presidential election and set to rule the country for the next five year term.

ii. He won the 97.5 percent of the vote to win a fifth consecutive term and defeated his competitor Turgun Syzdykov as scoring 1.8 percent of the ballot.

6. Bimba Modak, Marathi actress passed away

i. Eminent Marathi film and stage actress of yesteryear, Shanta alias Bimba Modak, passed away last night in Pune . She was 97.

ii. In 1946, she made her debut in the film “Chulaani Mul” directed by noted playwright and writer Vishram Bedekar.

iii. In 1980, she was honoured with a lifetime award by Maharashtra government for her versatile acting talent.

7. Railways win
Senior Men’s National Hockey championship

i. Railways has defeated Uttar Pradesh Hockey by 5-3 in the final and won
the Senior Men’s National Hockey championship.

ii. In the 3rd Position match, Air India Sports Promotion Board outplayed
Hockey Gangpur-Odisha by 5-3.
