1. Writ plea by Wayanad medical college dismissed by SC

a) Supreme Court has ordered that no citizen or institution enjoy fundamental right to recognition or affiliation of their institutions. 

b) According to the provision in Article 19(1)(g) of the Constitution, citizens have the right to practise any profession or conduct any occupation, trade or business. However, such right is subject to restriction & imposition of condition as provided under Article 19(6) of the Constitution. 

c) Wayanad Institute of Medical Sciences has petitioned against the decisions of Medical Council of India & the Central Government regarding the renewal of permission for admitting MBBS students for the academic year 2015-16.

2. European Medicines Agency approves world’s first malaria vaccine – Mosquirix

a) The vaccine shot named Mosquirix or RTS,S has been authorised by the European Medicines Agency (EMA), the European drugs regulator.

b) The vaccine has been developed by British drug-maker GlaxoSmithKline in partnership with PATH Malaria Vaccine Initiative. It is the world’s first licenced human vaccine against a parasitic disease.  

c) According to EMA’s regulations, this vaccine is licenced for use in 6-week-old to 17-month-old babies.

d) Malaria is a mosquito-borne disease caused by parasitic protozoans. Around 5,84,000 people succumbed to it in 2013, mostly in the sub-Saharan African region. Children under the age of five constituted 80% of malaria victims.

3. Maharashtra cabinet approves Shyamaprasad Mukherjee Jan Van Vikas Scheme 

a) Maharashtra state government has approved the Shyamaprasad Mukherjee Jan Van Vikas Scheme, which aims at comprehensive development of villages around tiger reserves.

b) The basic idea is to reduce man-animal conflict & to achieve sustainable development in the region. This scheme will also reduce villagers’ dependence on forests by boosting employment possibilities through supplementary businesses and farming activities.

c) It will be launched on project basis from 2015-16 to 2019-20.

4. Shubham Jaglan wins another junior world golf title

a) Shubham Jaglan, a 10-year-old Haryana boy has won the IJGA World Stars of Junior Golf event 2015.

b) On July 19, Shubham had bagged the Junior World Golf Championship 2015 title, in California.

5.  First All-Women Trans Continental Road Expedition flagged off from New Delhi

a) The All-Women Trans Continental Road Expedition has been flagged off from Delhi to London by Union Minister for Chemical & Fertilisers & Minister of State for Youth Affairs & Sports.

b) The 3 participants will travel via Myanmar, China, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Russia, Ukraine, Poland Czech Republic, Germany, Belgium & France for almost 55 days. 

c) The drive is approximately 12,000 kms from Delhi to London.

6. Puducherry first to get smart city nomination

a) Puducherry is the first city to be nominated as a smart city under the Central Government’s smart city mission.

b) All the 5 local urban bodies in the Union Territory have all the pre-requisites for stage – 1 of ‘City Challenge Competition’.

c) As per the smart city mission guidelines, the High Powered Steering Committee (HPSC) has been constituted & headed by Puducherry’s Chief Secretory to oversee Stage -1 of the competition. 

 7. India ranked 12th in terms of power generation from nuclear source

a) According to the data published by the Power Reactor Information System (PRIS) of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), India figures 12th in terms of power generation from nuclear source. 

b) India is also at 6th position with respect to the number of reactors in operation in the country. 

c) India will gain upper ranks once the Gorakhpur Haryana Anu Vidyut Pariyojana (GHAVP) & Kudankulam Units with total capacity of 3,400 MW, are operationalised.

8. Reliance Group arm inks MoU with Augur

a) Reliance Unmanned Systems, an entity of Reliance Group, has signed an MoU with Augur Oversees Operation of Singapore, a subsidiary of Augur Aeronautical Centre. The agreement opens avenues for the firms to manufacture Aerostats & Airships in India. 

b) As per the MoU, both the firms will work together on new technologies on civil & military market as part of the Indian Government’s Make in India initiative. 

9. INS Viraat to have a last refit

a) The aircraft carrier INS Viraat of the Indian Navy is set to undergo one last maintenance procedure at the Cochin Shipyard. 

b) INS Viraat is proposed to retire from services next year. This long time flagship carrier has served the Royal Navy as HMS Hermes before joining the Indian Navy in 1987. INS Viraat also carried the Sea Harrier fighters.

10. SAARC satellite to cost Rs. 235 cr.

a) The South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) satellite will cost around Rs.235 crore. 

b) This satellite will provide full-range applications & services to SAARC’s member nations in telecommunication & broadcasting applications like television, direct-to-home, very small aperture terminals, tele-education, telemedicine & disaster management support.

c) India’s PM Narendra Modi announced this satellite at SAARC summit in Nepal last year. 

d) It will be built by ISRO with 12 Ku-band transponders & will be launched using GSLV MK-II

11. Forbes announces Asia Fabulous 50 list

a) India has claimed the second highest position in the Forbes Asia Fabulous 50 list with 10 firms. China features first in the list with 25 companies.

b) Lenovo ranks as the number one as it generated 46.3 billion revenue last year.

c) Indian companies included in the list are- Aurobindo Pharma, HCL Technologies, HDFC Bank, Lupin, Motherson Sumi Systems, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries, Tata Consultancy Services, Tata Motors, Tech Mahindra & Titan.
