1. Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic Sworn in as Croatia First Woman President

i. Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic today sworn in as the First Woman President of Croatia.

ii. She defeated her left-wing predecessor Ivo
Josipovic in an election held in January.

iii. Grabar-Kitarovic is the fourth to hold the
largely ceremonial role in the former Yugoslav republic since its independence
in 1991.

iv. She was European affairs and foreign minister from
2003 to 2008 and then served as Croatia’s ambassador to the US until 2011 when
she was named NATO’s assistant secretary general

2. Combined
payment interface for mobile banking developed by NPCI

i. To encourage customers to transact with
digital medium, National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has launched a combined
payment interface to connect payments across the smartphones in the country.

ii. Without disclosing the bank account details,
customers will be able to send and receive money through mobile banking from
their smartphones.

iii. Customers can make their transaction with
the help of details like Aadhar number, mobile number or virtual payment
address.

Note: As per Reserve Bank of India data, in the
month of October, mobile banking transactions were recorded at Rs 8403.27 crore
more than double from Rs 3,985 recorded in June quarter.

3. India –
Pakistan match viewership creates history

i. According to data from STAR India, the
official broadcaster, India –
Pakistan match recorded a little more than 25 million viewership on the digital
platform in India, which is a record in a single game in a sporting event
across the world in one country.

ii. India defeated Pakistan by 76 runs in its
first match of the ICC World Cup 2015, held in Adelaide on Sunday.

iv. The team also created history as it
maintained its unbeaten World Cup record against its arch-rival.

v. STAR India Chief Operating Officer Sanjay
Gupta said: “We got 25 million views on two of our digital platforms – Hotstar
and STAR Sports – with an average duration of 10-12 minutes.

4. Manorama
Sharma, First woman Rajya Sabha MP passed away

i. Manorma Sharma who became the first woman Rajya
Sabha MP from Uttarakhand passed away following a brief illness in Gurgaon. She
was 59 years old.

ii. She belongs to Congress party and was
elected unanimously Rajya Sabha member last year, thus becoming first woman
Rajya Sabha MP from the state.

5. Daggubati
Ramanaidu, Veteran film producer passed away

i. Veteran film producer and former Lok Sabha
member Daggubati Ramanaidu passed away today. He was 79 years old.

ii. He was awarded with Dadasaheb Phalke in 2009 for
his life-time achievement in the industry and Padma Bhushan award in 2012 for
his outstanding contribution to the growth and development of Indian cinema.

iii. His name was entered into the Guinness Book
of World Record for making more number of films individually in less time.

6. Berger
Paints & Russian Govt. signed an agreement to set up industrial coatings
plant

i. Berger Paints India Ltd. has signed an agreement
with the Govt. of Stavropol Region, Russian Federation of $5 million to set up
an industrial coatings plant in Russia.

ii. According to Chairman of Berger Paints “The
plant will be developed with the primary capacity of 3,000 tonnes a year which will be
increased up to 50,000 tonnes a year”.

iii. The company has plants in Bangladesh,
Nepal, Poland, among other countries.

7. Kalindi
Charan Behera, leader of BJD passed away

i. Senior leader of Biju Janta Dal (BJD) and
former Odisha Minister Kalindi Charan Behera passed away today at private
hospital in Bhubaneswar. He was 71 years old.

ii. He was elected candidate of Janata Party for
the first time in 1977 from Salepur constituency and elected five times to the Odisha
Assembly.  

8. Vijender
Gupta named leader of the BJP Legislature Party in Delhi

i. Vijender Gupta has been elected as the leader
of the BJP Legislature Party in Delhi.

ii. Vijender Gupta who become the MLA for the
first time, won the Rohini seat in Delhi Legislative Assembly election.

iii. Apart from him two other BJP MLA Om Prakash
Sharma of Vishwas Nagar and Jagdish Pradhan of Mustafabad won their respective
seat in the election.

Note: In the 70-member Delhi Assembly, Aam Admi Party has won 67 seats while
BJP only three seats.
