1. HDFC & Apollo Hospitals join hands for pre-paid medical card
i. HDFC Bank partnership with Apollo Hospitals to launched a co-branded medical benefits card, which allows corporates to disburse medical allowances to their employees and has insurance cover for accidents. The bank claimed that this is the first-of-its kind product in the country.
ii. Corporates can load the specified allowance onto the card each month, which can be used by employees for medical expenditure Visa/MasterCard outlets.
Features of pre-paid medical card:
i. The card comes with a free accidental death insurance of Rs 3 lakh.
ii. Accident hospitalisation insurance of Rs 30,000 apart from discounts at Apollo network including Apollo Hospitals, Apollo Pharmacies, Apollo Clinics and Apollo White Dental.
2. Delhi No 1 in insurance density
i. According to data from General Insurance Council (GIC), New Delhi has emerged as number one in general insurance density or per capita insurance premium, and insurance penetration or per centage of population covered, in the country during 2013-14.
ii. New Delhi, with a relative smaller population of 1.68 crore and 315 offices, had mobilised premium of around Rs 5,000 crore and has got the highest insurance penetration of 1.34 per cent and density of Rs 3,228 in 2013-14, it said.
iii. Tamil Nadu, the second-largest general insurance market with around 1,200 offices has the largest number of general insurance offices in the country.
iv. Gujarat, the third-largest general insurance market, had 580 offices with a premium income of Rs 5,020 crore and had an insurance penetration of 0.76 per cent and density of Rs 775 in 2013-14.
v. Karnataka, with a total premium of Rs 5,698 crore and 612 offices, is ranked at fourth position in 2013-14.
3. Maharashtra tops in non-life premium
i. According to data from General Insurance Council (GIC), Maharashtra tops the list in generating non-life premium, in the country during 2013-14.
ii. Maharashtra, with around 1,100 offices, set up by the general insurers had mobilised a total premium of Rs 17,774 crore in 2013-14.
iii. Traditionally, Maharashtra has been the highest premium producing state, mainly because of Mumbai being the financial capital of the country.
iv. The top five general insurance markets in terms of gross premium are Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Karnataka and New Delhi.
4. Seven agreements signed between India & South Korea
i. India and South Korea today inked seven agreements, including on avoidance of double taxation and formalising consultations between National Security Councils of the two nations, to boost bilateral ties.
ii. The agreements were signed after Prime Minister Narendra Modi held talks with South Korean President Park Geun-hye.
The agreements signed between both countries are as follows:
i. The Double Taxation Avoidance Convention signed in 1985 has been revised with a view to avoiding the burden of double taxation on taxpayers in the two countries.
ii. Agreement signed to cooperate in audio-visual co-production, which would enable co-production of films, animation and broadcasting programmes.
iii. The two nations also signed a MoU for cooperation between the National Security Council Secretariat of India and the Office of National Security of South Korea.
iv. Another MoU was signed on cooperation in the field of electric power development and new energy industries.
v. The two nations also signed a MoU to strengthen and encourage cooperation on youth matters through participation in events and activities through exchanges, international conferences, seminars, youth camps, festivals etc.
vi. The two sides also signed Framework of Cooperation (FOC) in the Field of Road Transport and Highways.
vii. The MoU on cooperation between the two countries in the fields of maritime transport and logistics including through sharing of technologies, information and experiences, the training of seafarers, exchange of experts and port operations etc was also signed.
5. David Granger becomes eighth President of Guyana
i. David Arthur Granger has been sworn in as Guyana’s 8th President of Guyana.
ii. He was sworn-in as the President after the Guyana Elections Commission Chairman Dr. Steve Surujbally formally announced that his Coalition party had won the 2015 General and Regional Elections.
6. Nuclear Energy conference held in New Delhi
i. The 6th National Conference on Nuclear Energy was held in New Delhi, India.
ii. The Conference was organised by ASSOCHAM with the theme Nuclear Energy: a Clean Energy option.
iii. A Panel discussion on various issues such as contribution of nuclear energy to the decarbonisation of power sector, nuclear energy expansion & “Make in India” and Climate change & the future of nuclear energy was also held at the conference.
7. India & Mongolia signed 13 agreements
i. India and Mongolia on Sunday signed 13 agreements, including an air services agreement and in cyber security.
ii. The agreement was signed in presence of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Mongolian counterpart Chimed Saikhanbileg.

2. Agreement between the government of the Republic of India and the government of Mongolia on cooperation in the field of animal health and dairy.
3 Treaty between the government of the Republic of India and the government of Mongolia on the transfer of sentenced persons.
4. Memorandum of Understanding between the government of the Republic of India and the government of Mongolia on cooperation in the field of traditional systems or medicine and homeopathy.
5. Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Home Affairs of the Republic of India and the Ministry of Justice of Mongolia for enhancing cooperation in border guarding. Policing and surveillance.
6. Programme of cooperation between the government of the Republic of India and the government of Mongolia in the field of culture for the Years 2015-2018.
7. Memorandum of Understanding between the government of the Republic of India and the government of Mongolia on the establishmeni of cyber security training centre in the Ministry of Defence of Mongolia.
8. Memorandum or Understanding between the foreign service institute of the Ministry of External Affairs of the Republic of India and the diplomatic academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia.
9. Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between the Ministry of External Affairs of the Republic of India and the Ministry of foreign affairs of Mongolia.
10. Memorandum of Understanding between the ministry of new and renewable energy of the government of the Republic of India and the Ministry of Energy of the government of Mongolia on cooperation in the field of renewable energy.
11. Memorandum of Understanding for Cooperation between the National Security Council of the Republic of India and the National Security Council of Mongolia.

8. India grants $1 billion credit to Mongolia
i. India announced a $1-billion credit line to Mongolia for infrastructure development as the two countries upgraded their ties to “Strategic Partnership” and agreed to deepen defence cooperation besides exploring potential for tie-ups in areas like the civil nuclear sector.
ii. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also said that, “Today, Mongolia is also an integral part of India’s Act East Policy,”.
9. PM Modi gifted Bhabhatron machine to Mongolia for cancer treatment
i. Prime Minister Narendra Modi gifted Mongolia a Bhabhatron, the indigenous machine developed by Indian scientists for cancer treatment, in the first demonstration of bilateral cooperation in the civil nuclear sector.
ii. It is state-of-art nuclear medicine cancer therapy machine, developed and manufactured in India,” he said about the machine developed by the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre.
iii. An MoU was earlier signed between India’s Tata Memorial Centre and Mongolia’s National Cancer Centre for gifting of Bhabhatron-II Tele-therapy Unit along with a Radiotherapy Simulator.
10. Govt. allocated 5,000 crore rupees for AYUSH Mission
i. The government of India has allocated 5,000 crore rupees for the growth of Department of AYUSH, that comprises Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy.
ii. It has also launched an independent National AYUSH Mission aimed at capacity building for the sector.
11. Nurse Aruna Shanbaug passes away
i. Aruna Shanbaug, a nurse who was in a unconsciousness state for 42 years after being sexually assaulted , passed away this morning. She was put on ventilator after suffering a serious bout of pneumonia last week.
ii. She was in coma at King Edward Memorial hospital in Mumbai where she was brutally assaulted by a sweeper in 1973.
Note: Shanbaug became the face of mercy killing as her case sparked a debate in the country about the euthanasia laws. In 2011, the Supreme Court had rejected a plea for her mercy killing. The petition was filed by former journalist and author Pinki Virani, which the KEM hospital’s management and nursing staff had opposed.

i. Russian tennis player, Maria Sharapova clinched her third Rome Masters Tennis title after defeating Carla Suarez Navarro of Spain by 4-6, 7-5, 6-1 in the final.
ii. It is the 35th WTA Tour title of Sharapova’s career.
13. Men’s singles: Novak Djokovic lifted 4th Rome Masters title
i. World no 1 tennis player, Novak Djokovic lifted his fourth Rome Masters Tennis title after defeating Roger Federer by 6-4, 6-3 in the final.
14. Women’s doubles: Timea Babos & Kristina Mladenovic won the Rome Masters title
i. Hungarian-French pair of Timea Babos and Kristina Mladenovic defeated Indo-Swiss pair of Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis by 6-4, 6- 3 in the final to win the Rome Masters title.
ii. In World Women’s Doubles Rankings, Sania is ranked World Number One and Martina World No 2.
15. Men’s doubles: Pablo & David won the Rome Masters title
i. Uruguay – Spanish pair of Pablo Cuevas and David Marrero defeated Spanish pair of Marcel Granollers and Marc Lopez in the final to win the men’s double Rome Masters title.
16. Australia wicketkeeper, Brad Haddin retired from ODI cricket
i. The Australian wicketkeeper batsman, Brad Haddin announced retirement from One Day International (ODI) cricket. His final ODI appearance was the seven-wicket victory over New Zealand in World Cup final in Melbourne on 29 March 2015.
ii. In 30 Jan, 2001 hee played his debut ODI match against Zimbabwe at Hobart.
17. Vikas Gowda picks bronze in Shanghai IAAF Diamond League
i. Ace India discus thrower Vikas Gowda won a bronze medal in the second leg of the prestigious IAAF Diamond League series in Shanghai on Sunday. The 31-year-old Gowda hurled the disc to a distance of 63.90 metres, which he achieved in his fifth and penultimate attempt to finish third.
ii. Robert Urbanek of Poland won the Gold with a throw of 64.47 metres. Poland also secured the Silver through Piotr Malachowski.
