1. Bilateral talks between Indian PM Modi and Australian counterpart held in Turkey
(i) Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Australia counterpart Malcolm Turnbull held bilateral meetings on the sideline of G20 summit at Antalya in Turkey.
(ii) The two countries announced the completion of procedures for bringing the two nation nuclear deal into force.
(iii) With completion of the procedures, the Indo-Australia civil nuclear deal will come into force, thereby making India the only country which will be able to buy uranium from Australia without being signatory to Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty.
2. Safran SA dropped its plans to develop engine parts for Rafale combat aircraft for India
(i) French company Safran SA dropped its plans to make engine parts for Rafale combat aircraft with state-run Indian defence contractor Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd as India reduced the purchase of warplanes.
(ii) Safran’s India Chief Executive officer Stephane Lauret informed that the company won’t make the components with state-run Indian defence contractor Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd since the nation has ordered only 36 jets rather the more lucrative 126 originally mooted.
(iii) However the company informed it will continue other businesses with HAL as planned.
3. PM Modi, Maharashtra CM inaugurate Ambedkar memorial in London
(i) On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis inaugurated Dr. B R Ambedkar memorial which which will serve as an international memorial as well as a research centre.
(ii) In September 2015, Maharashtra state government purchased the house in London in which Dr. B. R. Ambedkar stayed as a student while pursuing his studies at London School of Economics (LSE) IN 1921-22.
(iii) The property which is a 2050 sq. ft, three storied structure on King Henry Road, in London was purchased for Rs. 32 crores and converted it into an international memorial consisting of a public museum and a library owing in recognition of its cultural and importance and national relevance to millions of Indians.
4. Grameen Vidyutikaran adored app launched
(i) The Minister of state with independent charge for Power, coal, New and renewable energy, Piyush Goyal launched Grameen Vidyutikaran app recently.
(ii) This app allows any individual to track the progress in the field of rural electrification in India through a real-time dashboard.
(iii) The ministry informed that this move served as a step in the direction of allowing Indian people to track, the development of central government’s Deendayal Upadhyaya Grameen Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY) which was aimed at electrification of all the un-electrified villages by 31 March 2017.
5. National Socialist Council of Nagaland (Khaplang), NSCN (K) declared a terrorist outfit
(i) As per the official release union government recently declared militant outfit National Socialist Council of Nagaland (Khaplang), NSCN (K), a terrorist organisation.
(ii) An official release said, NSCN (K), and all its formations and front organisations have been declared as a terrorist organisation under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.
(iii) It further added that NSCN (K) has resorted to terrorism by killing civilians and security forces and was engaged in other violent activities including the attack on an Army convoy in Chandel district of Manipur in June 2015.
6. ICICI Bank sells 6% stakes in its life insurance arm
(i) In a recent development ICICI Bank,India’s largest private sector lender approved the sale of 6% stake in ICICI Prudential Life Insurance — its life insurance arm.
(ii) As per the bank’s notice, of the 6% stakes sold, 4% stake will be sold to Premji Invest and its affiliates. The remaining 2% stake will go to Compassvale Investments Pte Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Singapore-based investment company Temasek Holdings.
7. World Pneumonia Day observed globally on November 12
(i) Recently, World Pneumonia Day was observed on 12 November 2015 across the world. To mark this event, a special Pneumonia Innovations Summit was organised by the World Health Organisation (WHO) in New York to discuss the strategies to deal with it.
(ii) This year’s theme for the day was, Every Breath Counts: Stop Pneumonia Now.
(iii) In India before the run up to the World Pneumonia Day, several doctors form the of Indian Academy of Paediatrics (IAP) highlighted the need for paediatric pneumococcal surveillance in India and called for appropriate measures to reduce the disease.
8. Noted Children’s book writer Kamala Laxman passes away in Pune
(i) Iconic cartoonist R.K.Laxman’s wife Kamala Laxman, a noted children’s book writer passed away in Pune, on November 14.
(ii) In 1970’s, she was commissioned by the India Book House to pen the Thama stories and tales of Tenali Raman, the Tenali Raman stories which were later memorably serialised and showcased on Doordarshan.
9. China’s Xuerui Li wins China Open Superseries title, defeats Saina
(i) Recently, China’s Xuerui Li defeated Saina Nehwal to clinch the women’s singles title at the China open Superseries.
(ii) Li defeated India’s Saina Nehwal in a 21-12, 21-15 game. With the title Li also won, 700000 US dollar.
10. India defeats Malaysia at the recently held Men’s Asia Cup Hockey tournament
(i) In the recently held eighth junior men’s Asia Cup hockey tournament, at Malaysia, India defeated Malaysia to register its 2nd consecutive victory.
(ii) India clinched a close 5-4 and with this India will now play China in their final encounter of the group stage. In the previous game, India defeated Japan.
