1. National Security Advisor, Foreign Secretary in Myanmar 

(i) National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar  have reached Nay-pi-Thaw for a two day visit to Myanmar to meet with the top political and military heads. 

(ii) The objective of the meet is to boost bilateral security co-operation between the two countries.

(iii) During the visit Doval is likely to discuss about ways to hold more joint operations against northeast extremists, sharing intelligence inputs and joint army operations.

(iii) In addition the two sides will also try to move forward on the extradition treaty. 

2. NHRC issues notice to Jharkhand Govt. for killing 12 maoist

(i) The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued a notice to the Jharkhand Government over the killing of 12 suspected maoist in an encounter. 

(ii) The commission has written to Jharkhand Chief Secretary and Director General of Police after taking suo-moto cognisance of media reports of the same incident.

(iii) The 12 maoist killed included four minors, who were gunned down in a joint operation of cobra battalion and district police in Bakoria village of Palamu district in Jharkhand. 

3. Assam floods situations remains grim

(i) The flood situation in Assam remained grim on Tuesday with 1.3 lakh people affected in more than 350 villages across Barpeta, Sonitpur, Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Goalpara, Kamrup Metropolitan, Morigaon, Sivasagar and Jorhat. 

(ii) As per the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), the highest number of people affected were in Barpeta district with over 61,000 persons suffering due to the floods, followed by Goalpara with more than 50,000 people being affected. 

(iii) The death toll in the first wave of floods in Assam remained at three – one each in Bongaigaon, Lakhimpur and Baksa districts. 

4. Taj Mahal to have free Wi-fi for visitors

(i) Ravi Shankar Prasad, Union Communication and IT Minister announced that tourist visiting the Taj Mahal can avail wi-fi services for free for the first 30 minutes of their visit.

(ii)  After free usage limit of 30 minutes, a customer can continue using the service on paid basis for which subscription plans are available in various denominations.

(iii) As part of the Digital India programme, the government is working towards enabling all cities with a population of over one million and tourist centres with wi-fi hotspots. 

5. Fresh volcanic eruption in Indonesia’s Mount Sinabung 

(i) Fresh volcanic eruptions continued on Saturday  in Indonesia’s Mount Sinabung area, the Indonesian Authority warned that the volcanic activity remains very high in the region.

(ii) Mount Sinabung is one of nearly 130 active volcanoes in Indonesia, which stands along the, “Ring of Fire” volcanic belt around the shores of the Pacific Ocean. 

(iii) No casualties have been reported from the volcanic eruption so far but the volcanoes have  become increasingly active in recent years.

6. Assam Govt to introduce Right to Health Services

(i) With a view to provide affordable, accessible, accountable and quality health care services to all sections of the people, Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi announced the decision of the state government to introduce Right to Health Services. 

(ii) The government has already instructed the health and family welfare department to ensure better treatment and better medicines to reduce maternal mortality rate, infant mortality rate and improve the overall health scenario of the state. 

7. Exports down for 6 months in a row, dips to 20.19% in May

(i) India’s exports continued to contract for the sixth consecutive month in May, as the global demand remained sluggish, with fluctuation in the value of rupee and the prices of petrol products.

(ii) According to official data, outbound shipments dropped over 20% in the month under review to $22.3 billion from nearly $28 billion in the year-ago period. 

(iii) Imports too declined by 16.5% for the month to $32.8 billion – the steepest since February 2014 when imports contracted by a tad over 17%. 

8. Guam Stuns India in World Cup qualifier

(i) A tiny Island nation Guam defeated India by a score of 2-1, stunning India and the world in a qualifier for 2018 FIFA World Cup on Tuesday. 

(ii) Guam was heading for a clear victory from the 93rd minute of the game, but India’s captain Sunil Chetri scored with a header in the very last play of match. 

(iii) Guam has been unbeaten in nine of its last 11 international matches, losing only to North Korea.
