1. New Governor
appointed in 4 sates
i. President Pranab Mukheejee today appointed
new four governors in state of Meghalaya, Jharkhand, Manipur and Arunachal
Pradesh.
ii. Two governors appointed during the tenure of
the UPA government were shifted to Mizoram and Manipur satate.
New Governor
appointed
i. V Shanmuganthan – appointed new governor of Meghalaya.
ii. J P Rakkhowa – appointed new governor of
Arunachal Pradesh
iii. Tathagata Roy – appointed new governor
of Tripura.
iv. Draupadi Murmu – appointed new governor of
Jharkhand.
Two governors
shifted:
i. Nirbhay Sharma (shifted from Arunachal
Pradesh to Mizoram.
ii. Syed Ahmed (shifted from Jharkhand to
Manipur.
2. Punjab becomes first state to issue Soil
Health Cards to farmers
i. Punjab has become the first state to issue Soil Health Cards to all
farmers in the state.
ii. The state has got 66 such laboratories which can test 3.5 lakh soil
samples annually. It will be mandatory for the labs to check soil health on
quarterly basis.
iii. It will also help in maintaining the health structure of the soil and
educating the farmers to use right quantity of fertilisers to prevent soil from
becoming arid.
Note: Prime Minister had formally launched the nationwide
‘Soil Health Card’ Scheme from Suratgarh, Rajasthan in Februrary this year.
3. Indian Oil, GAIL sign MoU with Adanis for LNG terminal in Odisha
i. Indian
Oil Corporation and GAIL (India) Ltd. have signed an MoU with Dhamra LNG
Terminal Pvt Ltd (DLTPL), for an onshore regasification terminal in Odisha.
ii. DLTPL,
owned by Adani Enterprises Ltd (AEL), plans to develop an onshore LNG
regasification terminal having an initial capacity of 5 million tons per annum
(MTPA).
iii. As per the
terms of MoU, IndianOil and GAIL would reserve regasification capacity in the
terminal to supply regasified LNG in the emerging gas markets in the eastern
part of the country.
iv. Indian Oil
and GAIL would also have the option to hold equity in DLTPL at a later date.
v. It would be
developed at Dhamra port in Bhadrak district of Odisha on the eastern coast of
India. Dhamra is an all-weather deep water port.
4. North Korea’s Defence Minister HyonYong-chol
executed
i. South
Korea’s spy agency has said in parliament that North Korea’s Defence Minister
HyonYong-chol has been executed.
ii. According to media reports, MPs were told
Hyon had been killed on 30 April by anti-aircraft fire in front of an audience
of hundreds.
iii. He is believed to have been accused of
showing disloyalty to North Korea’s leader, Kim Jong-un. It is reported that
Hyon had fallen asleep during an event attended by Kim Jong-un and had not
carried out instructions.
5. Govt. approved Rs. 20,000-crore budget for Namami Gange scheme
i. The government has approved Rs. 20,000 crore budget for “Namami Gange”
programme, which integrates the efforts to clean and protect the River Ganga in
a comprehensive manner.
ii. The amount was a significant four-fold
increase over the expenditure allocated to the task of cleaning the Ganga over
the past 30 years, a government release said.
iii. The programme
would be implemented by the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG), and its
state counterpart organisations, that is, the State Programme Management Groups
(SPMGs).
6. Cabinet clears 5% disinvestment in NTPC &
10% in Indian Oil
i. The Union
Cabinet cleared five per cent disinvestment in National Thermal Power
Corporation Limited and ten per cent in Indian Oil.
ii. It may fetch the government over 13,000
crore rupees at current market price.
iii. The proposed share sale of 5
per cent in NTPC will fetch the government 5,565 crore rupees while that of 10
per cent in IOC will bring in 7,932 crore rupees. Thus, the stake sale in both
companies will help the government mop up over Rs 13,000 crore.
iv. According to the BSE data, the
government holds 74.96 per cent in NTPC and 68.57 per cent in IOC.
7. Haryana to set up int’l museum at Panchkula
to exhibit
i. Haryana Government will set up an international level museum at
Panchkula to display significant archaeological findings.
ii. Haryana Archeology Minister, Ram Bilas Sharma said that while the work
to set up museum at Panchkula would commence within next 3 to 4 months.
8. Rajasthan govt starts LED home lighting
scheme
i. Rajasthan government has started LED home lighting scheme under
Domestic Efficient Lighting Programme, will install more than two crore LED
Lights across the state.
ii. It becomes leading state in providing LED bulb to domestic consumers.
iii. Under the scheme seven watt high quality LED bulbs will distributed
to each house hold at low price.
iv. About eighty five lakh domestic electricity consumers would be benefited
under the programme and will make Rajasthan leading state in energy efficiency.
