So it all goes back to the D-day, the GD/PI day for admission to the PGDM-HR course in IMI. I had never been so nervous to face any interview before. As I was sitting there and waiting for my turn, I couldn’t help but over-hear what other candidates had to say about their interview experiences, which definitely made me all the more anxious. So my first advice to all of you would be- Do not get intimidated by what others tell you, because in the end it’s all about YOUR interview questions, YOUR answers, and it’s simply about YOU, not them. You will face altogether different set of questions based on your background, and your interests. So go inside the interview room calmly and confidently.
My interview started with the panel members putting me at ease by asking me general questions like how I was feeling, how was my day and stuff like that. But when the ‘real’ interview started, believe me, it was not a cakewalk. I am a commerce graduate so they asked me about what subjects I had studied in my graduation and gave me a cost accounting question to be solved within 2 minutes. So my second advice would be- Be thoroughly prepared with your graduation subjects.
The interview went on with them asking me various general knowledge questions. For example: What is Batala (my hometown) famous for? Who are the famous HR personalities? And so on. So here comes the third advice: Prepare well for GK. And if you don’t know the answer, accept it. Rather than giving wrong answers, accept that you are not aware of it.
As I had opted for the HR course, the interviewee gave me a few situation-based questions related to HR. Also, I was interviewed on my areas of weaknesses. Well, here is the final tip: Be prepared with the justification of your weaknesses.
So I have tried to present a short glimpse of my interview experience which I hope would be of some help to all of you. All the best, do well!
