With an epidemic outbreak of Sachin fever during the CAT season, the entire mood is of Sachinfluenza.
Lets analyze Sachin’s attitude towards the game and try to implement in CAT.
1) 2003 World Cup Final in South Africa – India needed a mammoth 360 runs if they wanted to touch the world cup again after 1983. After the Australian innings, during the break, Sachin gathered all the team members and made a simple strategy. He said, “We need 360 runs from 300 balls. If we score just one boundary in each over, we will score 4*50 = 200 runs in 50 balls. The new target for us will be 160 runs in 250 balls. Surely achievable. Lets do it.” It was with this strategy he went out and attacked Glen McGrath right from the first ball. Unlucky for him, he got a top edge and got out. Who knows, had he stayed longer, today India could have been a 3 time world champion.
Learning – Do not get awed by the occasion of CAT. Don’t think about the entire 60 questions at one go. Plan step by step, question by question. Do not try to register the entire RC or DI at one go. Read passage by passage or graph by graph and then move to individual questions. Have simple, achievable strategy in place.
2) 241* in SCG, Australia – Before this match Sachin had a score of 0, 1, 37, 0 and 44 in his last five test innings on that tour. In this innings he vowed not to play his favorite shot i.e the cover drive because he was getting caught behind. He faced the fierce Australian attack who was constantly bowling at his off stump for 613 minutes, faced 436 balls and scored 180+ runs of the 241 runs on the leg side and remained unconquered.
Learning – Do not let your ego take a toll on you. On the C day it might happen that you are unable to solve a sum from your favorite topic.Try it twice, if you are not able to head in the right direction, leave it and move forward. There are 29 other questions that needs to be solved.
3) 200* in ODI against South Africa – Sachin became the first cricketer to score a double century in ODIs, something which always seemed impossible. He re-wrote record books and proved all the cricketing legends wrong.
Learning – Don’t have a negative frame of mind that you cannot do it or CAT is not for me since I have never even touched the number 90 during my school or graduation days or in CAT mocks. Believe in yourself and have an extremely positive mindset that you can achieve 99 percentile in CAT. Think – “I can and will do it”.
If Sachin Tendulkar can bear the pressure of the expectations of 1.2 billion people for 20+ years, can we not take some pressure for 140 minutes ? Think.
Thank You !
