The Combined Medical Services Examination 2015 is to be held on 28th June, 2015. In our previous article on the Combined Medical Services Examination, we discussed the exam in brief. Let us now understand the scheme and the structure of the examination in detail.
As you already know, the Combined Medical Services Exam comprises two parts:
Part I – Computer-based examination
Part II – Personality Test
The Computer-based examination consists of Paper I and Paper II, both of which are objective type papers. The components of these papers are as follows:
Paper I (a) General Ability
(b) General Medicine 250 Marks 2 hours
(c) Paediatrics
Paper II (a) Surgery
(b) Gynaecology and Obstetrics 250 Marks 2 hours
(c) Preventive, Social and Community Medicine
Both of these papers comprise 120 questions each. Paper I would comprise 30 questions from General Ability, 70 from General Medicine and 20 from Paediatrics. Paper II would comprise 40 questions from Surgery, 40 from Gynaecology and Obstetrics and 40 from Preventive, Social and Community Medicine. There will be penalty for wrong answers marked by the candidate. For every wrong answer, one third (0.33) of the marks assigned to the question will be deducted.
The syllabi for Paper I and Paper II is as follows:
General Ability – Indian Society, Heritage & Culture, Polity, Economy, Human Development Indices and the Development Programmes, Natural Resources, their distribution, exploitation, conservation and related issues, Basic concepts of Ecology and Environment, Impact of changing demographic trends on Health, Environment and Society, Indian Agriculture, Industry, Trade, Transportation and Service Sectors, etc.
General Medicine – General Medicine including Cardiology, Neurology, Dermatology and Psychiatry, Respiratory diseases, Gastro-intestinal, Genito-urinary, Neurology, Hematology, Endocrinology, Metabolic disorders, Infections/ Communicable diseases, etc.
Paediatric – General Paediatrics
Surgery – Surgery, including General surgery, Urological surgery, Neuro surgery, Otorhinolaryngology E.N.T., Thoracic surgery, etc.
Gynaecology & Obstetrics – Ante-natal conditions, Intra-natal conditions, Post-natal conditions, Management of normal or complicated labour, questions on applied economy, applied physiology of menstruation and fertilization, etc.
Preventive Social and Community Medicine – Social and Community Medicine, Concept of health, disease, Preventive Medicine; Health Administration and Planning, General Epidemiology, Communicable diseases, Environmental Health, etc.
Personality Test: Candidates who qualify in the computer based objective type papers are called for the Personality Test. The Personality test carries 100 marks. The objective of the Personality test is to supplement the computer based examination in testing the candidate’s general knowledge, curiosity, balance of judgement and alertness of mind, social cohesion, integrity of character, initiative and capability for leadership.For additional information, view the Combined Medical Services Examination 2015 notification:
