A student from Moga, Punjab, killed herself allegedly after failing in Mathematics in the Class 12 Board exams.
Simranjeet Kaur shot herself with father’s revolver, while her family was away running errands.
Her parents and teachers were shocked at this unfortunate incident. “She was a sincere student and quite ambitious. She had secured 72% in her Board exam, but failed in Mathematics paper,” said Vina Arora, her teacher at the Government Senior Secondary School.
She was depressed after the result was out. It crashed her hopes of securing an engineering seat.
Her parents claim that they didn’t scold her. As a matter of fact, Simranjeet’s father had gone to the local court to prepare her domicile certificate so that she could take admission in the engineering course. They were also confident that she would score good marks in the re-assessment exam.
No suicide note was found. The police are investigating the matter and said that no foul play is being suspected. Harjit Singh Pannu of Moga Police Station said, “We did not find any suicide note, but prima facie depression seems to be the cause. Her friends had scored well and she had not. We want to ascertain if the parents had put any pressure.” As of now, a case has been filed under Section 174 of CrPC.
