Hold on, candidates! Belling the ‘CAT’ is not enough. Along with the preparation for Common Admission Test or CAT, there are a few things you have to keep in mind while appearing for the life changing test. We are providing you with the lists of essential do’s and don’ts for CAT 2019.
Here is a crucial list of DO’S you have to remember:
Locate the centre in advance – Learn about the location of your exam centre beforehand in order to arrange suitable mode of transportation to reach the destination comfortably, and on time. The Google map link has been provided by IIM Kozhikode to make it easier for the candidates to locate the CAT exam centre.

- Aadhaar Card
- PAN Card

Make sure your signature on the ID is not smudged or damaged, and is clearly visible.

Verification and Registration – Get your documents verified at the centre. You will be allowed entry into the respective exam lab only after your documents have been verified. This will be followed by a biometric registration wherein your left thumb impression and photograph will be captured. Sign the attendance sheet and the invigilator will read out the instructions before the test begins.
Utilize the rough work area on the scratch sheet – Instead of scribbling on your answer script, make use of the rough sheet you are given by the invigilator. Put your roll number on every page and number the questions properly. Submit this sheet along with your CAT admit card to the invigilator before leaving the exam hall.

After having a good look through the points above, make a note of the DON’Ts too:
Do not carry prohibited items – You should not carry or wear the following items. These are strictly prohibited inside the test centre:
- Mobile phone
- Watch
- Bag/wallet
- Caps, sunglass, jacket, closed footwear
- Metal jewelry
- Electronic items
- Stationery items
Do not discuss your preparation – Remember, CAT is not a qualifying but a competitive exam. What you have learnt is your ace. Solitude should be the best companion before writing your exam. If you do get into a group discussion, try to gain as much as you can without giving away what you have learnt.
Do not let tension interfere – You need not pay heed to the discussions about how tough the test is going to be. Don’t let others get to you if they discuss topics you have not focused on much. Do not feel unprepared. This is your war, and you have the perfect strategy to win it.
Do not get involved in unfair practice – Ensure that you do not carry any kind of unfair materials such as chits, papers or books along with the prohibited items to the test centre. In case you are spotted practicing unfair means inside the exam lab, your candidature will be immediately cancelled.
Do not speak to fellow candidates inside the exam hall – You should not involve or indulge in any sort of conversation with other examinees. Clarify doubts from the invigilators if any.
Do not try to attempt CAT 2019 more than once – You have to appear for the slot as allotted in the admit card. If you attempt to appear more than once, your exam will be cancelled for malpractice.
Keep your cool, study hard and keep in mind the above mentioned points and you will come out with flying colours.
Just do it and all the best!
