IIM Kashipur has successfully executed the Common Admission Process (CAP) 2024. Annually, ten Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) join forces to facilitate a common personal interview (PI) for their flagship MBA/PGP in management programmes. The CAP group includes IIMs from Bodh Gaya, Jammu, Kashipur, Nagpur, Raipur, Ranchi, Sambalpur, Sirmaur, Tiruchirappalli, and Udaipur.

CAP 2024 saw record-breaking participation this year, with 16,371 candidates appearing for the PI round. Among them, 3,800 were female candidates. Continuing the trend from previous years, the PI was conducted online, ensuring cost-efficiency and convenience for MBA/PGP aspirants.

Candidates had the opportunity to correct any errors made during the CAT registration process. To enhance transparency, participants could view their normalised PI scores on the CAP portal once the results were declared.

Each participating IIM creates its own merit list using normalised PI scores and other criteria based on their published admission policies and sends offers individually. The initial offer lists are typically sent simultaneously by all CAP-participating IIMs, enabling candidates to make informed decisions regarding their choice of institute.

IIM Kashipur was the coordinator for CAP 2024, overseeing the entire process and ensuring its smooth execution.

Know All About Common Admission Process (CAP)

The IIM Common Admission Process (CAP) is a centralised admission mechanism adopted by the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) to facilitate entry into postgraduate management programmes.

The CAP serves as the final selection phase for MBA/PGP admissions at the newer and smaller IIMs, providing a unified framework for all participating IIMs.

The CAP process typically includes a Personal Interview (PI) and a Writing Ability Test (WAT). However, in response to the post-COVID scenario, the recent format has been adjusted to feature only the PI component.

The roster of IIMs participating in the CAP may vary, with the potential to expand or contract. For the 2024 round, ten IIMs participated in the IIM Common Admission Process. This adjustment means candidates need not undergo separate PI-WAT sessions for each participating IIM, as all recognise the CAP scores.

The newer IIMs determine candidates’ final admission decisions by considering CAP round performance, CAT scores, academic credentials, diversity, work experience, and other specific selection criteria.

IIM CAP Eligibility Criteria

  • Minimum 50% aggregate in graduation (45% for reserved category candidates).
  • Candidates must meet the qualifying CAT cutoff set for IIM Common Admission Process colleges.
  • WAT-PI selection will be based on the final CAT cutoff, which may exceed the qualifying cutoff.
