The student who died in the brawl, Satyarth, 19, hailed from Bihar.
The coaching capital of India is in the news for all the wrong reasons these days. If it was two engineering aspirants’ suicides that rocked the nation earlier this week, the fifth such casualty this year, on Thursday night, it was a clash that erupted between two student groups at a mess that has killed one student, and left another gravely injured and battling for life in hospital.
The police said that both the groups of students hail from Bihar and are medical aspirants preparing for the entrance exam in Kota. It was a trivial argument between two students from a coaching institute in the area. It took an ugly turn in which Satyarth, 19, was ruthlessly stabbed with a knife by a student of the rival group leading to excessive loss of blood. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital but he succumbed to his injuries on the way. His friend Sandip, also from the same coaching class, has sustained grave injuries in the fight. The doctors said that he was critical.
“The students who are involved in this ugly incident are enrolled with a reputed coaching centre in the Mahaveer Nagar area. A trivial argument at the mess turned violent in which one student was killed and another one seriously injured,” said Bhim Singh, a police constable at Mahaveer Nagar Police Station. An FIR under the Section 302 has been registered against unknown people at the police station. Rumours are that the argument was over a girl, a hostel resident in the same area.
A worker of the Gupta Mess Center, Mahavir Nagar, where the tragic incident had taken place late on Thursday night, was shocked. He failed to understand the cause of the ugly brawl. “There were close to 100 students from the two groups. We didn’t even understand why all the ruckus happened. By the time the police arrived at the spot, the perpetrators had run away,” he said.
