Continuing from where we left off in the November 2011 update about the seat availability in the top 10 b-schools as per the PaGaLGuY B-school Rankings 2011, here is a similar update on the number of seats available across categories at the b-schools ranked 11 to 20, for the upcoming 2012-14 batch.
Six colleges among these are located in Maharashtra, among which three institutes accept Common Admission Test (CAT) scores whereas the other three (NMIMS Mumbai, SIBM Pune and TISS Mumbai) conduct their own entrance tests. These six Maharashtra colleges have a total of 1,467 seats.
We first begin with the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Bangalore (rank 3) which had not made it to the first part of the series because they hadn’t decided their seat outlay at that time.
Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore (IIM-B)
General Merit category: There are total 180 seats in the general category.
Reserved Seats: NC-OBC have 103 seats reserved for them, while SC have 58 seats. ST have total 29 seats, while DA have 12 seats reserved for them. There is no quota separately for NRI students.
So the grand total for intake of students is 382 students.
Entrance Exam: Common Admission Test (CAT).
Management Development Institute (MDI), Gurgaon
PGPM/PGP-HR/PGP-IM are the programmes available for the 2012 batch.
Number of seats for PGP: 240
Number of seats for PGP-HR: 60
Number of seats for the PGP-IM: 35
MDI Gurgaon admits students only through CAT, and follows a no-reservation policy because it is not directly under government ownership.
Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT), Delhi and Kolkata
IIFT has a total number of 300 seats for the next academic year, which is same as last year. Out of these 300 seats, 240 are located in the Delhi campus and 60 at the Kolkata campus.
Reserved Seats: 23% seats are reserved for Other Backward Class, whereas for Schedule Castes it is 15%, 4% for NRI and Schedule Tribes it is 7.5%.
General category: This leaves 150 seats under the general category.
Entrance exam: IIFT’s admission procedure consists of a Written Test, Group Discussion, Essay Writing and Interview. The entrance test was held on November 27, 2011 the results for which have been declared,. IIFT doesn’t accept scores of other admission tests other than its own in-house test. For NRI students, the score of the General Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) is accepted.
National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE), Mumbai
NITIE has a total number of 274 seats for its management courses for Batch 2012, which is the same as last year.
Reserved Seats: 27% seats are reserved for Other Backward Classes, whereas for Schedule Caste it is 15% and Schedule Tribe it is 7.5%.
General category: This leaves 137 seats left for the general category students.
Entrance Exam: CAT and GATE are accepted by NITIE for admissions, after which the results are evaluated on the scores of Group Discussion (GD) and Personnel Interview (PI). CAT scores are accepted only for Post Graduate Diploma in Industrial Management, Industrial Safety and Environmental management and Information Technology Management, whereas the scores of GATE are accepted only for the Post Graduate Diploma in Industrial Engineering.
Jamanalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies (JBIMS), Mumbai
JBIMS has a total of 120 seats for the next academic year, which is same as last year.
Reserved seats: 19% seats are reserved for other backward class, whereas SC has 13%, ST has 7%. Overall 60 seats are there in JBIMS for reserved category.
General category: That leaves 60 seats for the general category.
Entrance Exam: The entrance exam required to seek admission in JBIMS is the Maharashtra Common Entrance Test (Mah-CET). There are 102 seats reserved for candidates from Mumbai University and other universities across Maharashtra, whereas there are 18 seats reserved for students across India.
Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS), Mumbai
The total number of seats for the two-year fulltime MBA programme in NMIMS is 540. Number of seats allocated for each course is,
MBA Core – 300
MBA Actuarial Science – 30
MBA Banking – 60
MBA Capital Market – 60
MBA HR – 30
MBA Pharmaceutical Management – 60
Entrance Exam: The entrance exam required to get into NMIMS is NMAT. Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) and Foreign Nationals can take the GMAT to get into NMIMS. The number of seats was increased from 510 to 540 in batch 2011 when MBA- HR was introduced (30 seats). There are no reservations at NMIMS.
Symbiosis Institute of Business Management (SIBM), Pune
The two-year full-time MBA programme at SIBM Pune has four specialisations: Finance, Human Resources, Marketing and Operations Management.
The total intake of students is 180. The entrance exam used is the Symbiosis National Aptitude Test.
Reserved seats: Seats are reserved 15% for SC, 7.5% for ST and 3% for differently abled. There are also two seats for Kashmiri Migrants (children of migrants from J&K; valley) and 15% seats for International students. This makes the total number of reserved seats 75.
General category seats: This leaves 105 seats for the General category.
Shailesh J Mehta School of Management (SJMSOM), IIT Bombay
There are a total of 123 seats SJMSOM for its two-year fulltime MM programme.
The split up: General: 50.5%, OBC and NC: 27%, SC: 15%, ST: 7.5% of the total strength.
There has been no change in the number of seats from the previous year. The last time the number of seats was increased was in 2010.
Entrance Exam: JMET used to be the qualifying test for a domestic candidate to apply to SJMSOM, until 2011. As JMET stands cancelled for 2012, the qualifying exam considered for application will be CAT 2011. For foreign candidates though, GMAT will be the qualifying exam. The number of students who will be granted admission from CAT 2011 and GMAT exams is upto the discretion of the faculty and admissions team, and was not disclosed.
Institute of Management Technology, Ghaziabad
IMT follows a no-reservation policy.
Total number of seats: 600 (480 seats in PGDM and 120 in Dual-Country PGDM).
Entrance tests: CAT, GMAT, XAT (the proportion from each test has not been decided as yet).
Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai
Total number of seats for the school of management: 115 of which,
HRM programme: 62
Globalisation in labour: 28
Social Entrepreneurship: 25
Student intake remains the same as last year.
Reserved seats: 49.5% seats are reserved for OBC/SC/ST.
Entrance Test: TISS admits students through the TISS admissions entrance test
Xaviers Institute of Management, Bhubaneshwar (XIMB)
XIMB has a total of 300 seats for the next academic year, out of which 180 seats are for PGDM, 60 seats for HRM and 60 seats for the Rural Management course.
Reserved seats: There are no reservations in XIMB and admission is granted on the basis of merit list.
Entrance Exam: The entrance exam required to seek admission at XIMB is the Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT) and the CAT. The Rural Management students need to clear the entrance test conducted by Institute of Rural Management, Anand (IRMA). There are no reservations for CAT and XAT separately, and the admissions provided to the candidate are only on the basis of merit list which includes the marks of CAT or XAT, plus scores of Group Discussion and Personal Interview.
