Yale – Great Lakes 4th International Research Conference on December 20, 2009
Great Lakes Institute of Management (GLIM), Chennai, a leading management institute in the country, founded by Prof. Bala V Balachandran, conducted the Yale – Great Lakes Center for Management Research’s fourth International Research Conference at the Great Lakes campus in Chennai on December 21, 2009.
Yale – Great Lakes Center for Management Research aims to promote, facilitate and advance India-centric Management related research, which contributes to the development of basic and applied knowledge in the field of management. In its fourth meet, the International Research Conference had various research papers presented on the theme, ‘Managing Responsibly with Confidence’ and on areas of business and management including finance, human resources, marketing, operations management, organizational behavior and strategy.
The conference had distinguished speakers such as Bala V. Balachandran from Northwestern University, Seenu V. Srinivasan from Stanford University and Venkat R. Krishnan, Great Lakes Institute of Management.
Vasanthi Srinivasan from IIM Bangalore, Siva Nathan from Georgia State University, Navniet Sekera, I.P.S., Lucknow and Gerrit F. A. De Vylder from Leuven University Belgium were the key note speakers at the conference.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Bala V. Balachandran said,”Yale-GLIM Centre for Management Research is a platform for faculty exchanges, joint research, concurrent case studies and presenting research that helps create an academic symbiosis between the two management institutions. The Karma Yoga initiative which has enduring commitment towards inclusive development and the Platinum Rated Green Campus are a testimony to Great Lakes Institute of Management’s contribution towards incubating leaders who genuinely value giving back to the society.”
Shyam Sunder, James L Frank Professor of Accounting, Economics and Finance, Yale School of Management said,”The recently concluded Copenhagen summit has proved that Heads of State have a binding commitment towards their own populace which is often conflicting to the kind of resolute determination that is imperative for sustenance of the planet. We hope this years research papers help the students develop there skills in management to help contribute to society.
Research papers presented at the conference were from various institutes including Amity University- Rajasthan, Anna University- Chennai, Annamalai University, Cochin University of Science & Technology, Great Lakes Institute of Management- Chennai, Hindustan Springs Mfg. Co- Bhadravati, IIM- Ahmedabad, IIT- Roorkee, and Manarat University of Windsor- Canada.
‘Marketplace’ held at IIM Calcutta
‘MarketPlace’, the first wholly online event of Intaglio 2009-10 – the annual international B-School Meet of IIM Calcutta, was held on December 18, 2009 with resounding success.
With prizes worth Rs 100,000, more than 450 teams registered to participate in the war of marketing strategies. Teams fom the IIMs, ISB and other leading Indian B-Schools competed with international colleges like CEIBS (China Europe International Business School), Shanghai on a common platform.
The online event comprising three rounds tested strategy, consistency and general marketing awareness. The evaluations would be done by the event sponsors Wild Stone. Round II, which is the Grand Finale, would be held at IIM Calcutta from January 7 to 10. Six teams, selected in this round would get a chance to make a presentation in front of eminent personalities from the industry and academia. They would have to prove their expertise in marketing by analysing personal care industry and determining the future marketing strategy for Wildstone.

Innovating for a sustainable world – ‘The Moral Challenge for Young Leaders’- the search for the Leader begins!
Loyola Institute of Business Administration (LIBA), Chennai and the University of Dayton, Ohio, USA launched Mindful Leadership Competition – 2010, the third annual national-level competition for undergraduate and graduate students on ‘INNOVATING FOR A SUSTAINABLE WORLD- the moral challenge for young leaders’ on December 10, 2009
The competition winner will receive an all-expense paid trip to the United States to visit the University of Dayton and participate in a program custom-tailored to the winner’s academic interests. The winner will explore international study options with the University’s top-ranked Center for International programs, spend time on campus, attend classes, meet faculty and talk with students from all over the world about studying in the U.S. Mindful Leadership Rolling Trophy for the first winner’s Institution.
Cash prizes and other honors will be awarded to second and third place winners.
This competition is open to all full-time bonafide undergraduate and graduate students of accredited education institutes, colleges or universities. Entries can be posted online from December 20, 2009 and the last date for submission is January 17, 2010. IIM Lucknow Launches ‘Treatise- the International Thought Challenge’
IIM Lucknow’s Manfest 2010 in association with the British Council, launched ‘Treatise: The International Thought Challenge’, an International debate challenge which is conducted online and this year will be set on the Manfest 2010 theme- ‘India: Expect, Explore, Experience’. This innovative format allows participating teams to contest from the comfort of their homes. A flagship event, Treatise has seen International participation from the likes of Stanford and University of Michigan. Business Standard is the associate title partner for the event which carries prize money of Rs 75,000.
This is the fourth edition of Treatise and is expected to be a huge success going by past records. First round entries can be submitted at treatise.iimlmanfest.com till December 25th, 2009.
Manfest 2010 also launched ‘Prerna’ The Social Entrepreneurship Awards. It is a CSR initiative aimed at recognizing social entrepreneurs who have successfully led transformational social change. The focus is on self sustaining businesses that are doing social good at its core.
More events are slated to be launched in the coming days. Manfest is particularly known for its innovative and thought inspiring conclaves. Industry leaders and renowned business minds capture the attention of packed audiences on contemporary topics. One of the conclaves this year will focus on the Gaming and Animation industry, a fast growing sector.
Other than that Manfest 2010 will feature Hell Raiser, the rock fest, Professional night, a Lucknow city run to raise AIDS awareness, online games, informals and much more.
