An interview is a formal meeting with the employer, your next reporting head or the HR. Most job seekers may be technically sound or practically smart at their work, but dread interviews. The prime reason being, communication skills are not good enough to impress the interviewer. Communication skills play an important role; but are they enough to crack the interview?
Though good communication skills are very important, it is not the only criteria to crack an interview. Undoubtedly, you need to have a thorough knowledge about the job or post that you have applied for. Even if you are a fresher, you need to know about your subjects and some amount of knowledge on general topics as well. Keeping oneself updated on industry relevant topics is also quite helpful to crack an interview wherein you can converse with the interviewer and exhibit your knowledge about the industry.
But here again the question arises. How can you put forward your thoughts, opinions and answers if you are not strong in your speaking skills? Therefore the use of effective communication techniques is mandatory to stand out in the crowd and get your dream job. You are not the only person appearing for the interview. An interview is a highly focused professional conversation where the employer shows interest in taking you on board. An employer will therefore try to seek something unique in you before he hands out the appointment letter. While certificates and merit is important to qualify, you need to exhibit the right attitude, convincing quality and good communication skills.
Cracking the interview also depends on the type of job you have applied for. If your job requires technical know-how and less interaction with people, you need to be more proficient in your technical skills. It’s not mandatory to speak like a professional English accent trainer, but you should project some amount of speaking skills in order to impress the interviewer.
But, if the job is related to hardcore marketing or a position that needs to regularly deal with clients; impeccable communication skills become mandatory. Even the job of an HR asks for good conversational skills. To sum it up briefly, communication skills do play an important role in almost every type of job scenario. You may have joined as a trainee or as junior employee. But do you wish to stay there all your life? In order to climb the ladder of success it is crucial to effectively communicate with your seniors and people around you. Therefore hone your communication skills as much as possible with regular practice and eagerness.
