A top bureaucrat said that government of Andhra Pradesh has decided to help curb corruption by supporting IIM-A in the state administration. The Indian Institute of Management – Ahmedabad (IIM-A) would study the structural issues in the government department in relation to corruption and come out with procedures to tackle them.
About Departments
The main purpose is to have the focus on government departments that have earned alleged notoriety for corruption. It is believed that the departments like revenue, police, municipal administration and registration are more known for corruption.
The officials said to PTI, “ “The IIM-A would help us identify the structural issues in mandal revenue offices, registration offices, town- planning wing in civic bodies and also the police that are leading to corruption. Based on the inputs, the government will initiate corrective action to eliminate corruption,”
Ever since Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has taken reins in the state, his focus has been mainly on eliminating graft. And recently, in the high-level review meeting he said that the fight against corruption needs to be taken aggressively. He also announced that the AP Anti-corruption Bureau will be organized in full forced in the next couple of weeks across the state. This is to stem corruption at all levels.
Supporting IIM-A
The government is expected to work on related issues like primarily reducing citizen-official interface in the offices. The department will use information technology-based systems, curtailing discretionary power and arbitrariness of bureaucrats. The authorities will also publish the names of corrupt on the public websites.
Also, Based on the IIM-A report, government may suitably amend the PC Act for a complete crackdown on the corruption.
However, there are several issues that need to addressed before eliminating corruption from departments of government offices. The major concern is sanction of prosecution of corrupt official as there have delayed or dropped due to lack of sanction of prosecution against officials.
The seriousness of government is seen only when they have engaged IIM-A in the mission to remove corruption.
