The first week of May saw some excitement from the Amity School of Languages. The faculty of French arranged an event on May 7 for the same.
FrenQuaestia 2015
On May 7, 2015, Amity School of Languages, AUM hosted its first-ever French event – a unique gameshow named “FrenQuaestia 2015”.
FrenQuaestia 2015 saw various schools of AUM participating with fervor in its six rounds. Students from Amity Law School, Amity Business School and Amity School of Engineering and Technology formed six teams of seven contestants each. Each team represented a French town or a city. “The idea was to make students aware of different places in France – where they are located and why they are popular”, says Ms. Rima Dharne, faculty of French at Amity School of Languages, and also creator of FrenQuaestia. The teams chose their own town/city.

The preparation began one month before the D-Day. Six confident students volunteered to be captains of six teams. Then, they systematically chose their teammates. “It was a tough call”, says Mr. Manish Chapparwal, FY student, ASET & captain of the ‘Lyon’ team, “The captains had to make sure that their teams had students from all the schools.”
Later, Ms. Dharne announced the rules. Every contestant from every team was supposed to participate in the event. The six rounds were going to test the students’ knowledge of French grammar and vocabulary that they had studied in their curricula. The captains made sure that the right contestant participated in the right round.
But Ms. Dharne wasn’t the only one looking over the preparations. Dr. Manjiree Vaidya, faculty of English at Amity School of Languages helped her. “Plus, I knew I would need a strong team to coordinate with the contestants and to help with the various aspects of the game show… and I got one too!” adds Ms. Dharne. The OC or the Organizing Committee of FrenQuaestia 2015 had seven students who worked diligently throughout the preparatory month. They made sure that all the queries were answered and made arrangements for the actual day. On May 7, they executed their tasks to perfection. “The audience was amazed at the skills and the calm persona of the OC during the game show”, praised Dr. Becky Thomas, Director, Centre for Interdisciplinary Research (CIDR) at AUM.
The event was hosted in French and English for the benefit of all. There were also French performances by the students of AUM. The audience comprised of faculty members of various schools and other members of the staff. Prof. (Dr.) Vijay Khole, Vice Chancellor of Amity University Mumbai and Chevalier dans l’ordre des palmes académiques was the Chief Guest of FrenQuaestia 2015.
Team ‘Strasbourg’ were the winners. “FQ was full of fun and excitement”, exclaims Ms. Preeti Mourya, FY student, ASET and contestant of the team “Strasbourg”, “In a way, we all got prepared for our French exam. Our team’s aim was to enjoy the event. It was a cherry on the cake to emerge as winners!”
And thus FrenQuaestia 2015 was concluded with smiles and hugs all around.

– This is the first time that I have experienced and been exposed to the French culture and language in such a fun-filled and learner-centric fashion. The students learnt the basics of French grammar through activities which is a novel teaching method. This event can be emulated in other Amity campuses.
