After previous ugly experience NIC roped in to host CAT 2013 results which will be declared on January 14

The Common Admission Test (CAT) 2013 results will be out on January 14, 2014. For the first time, the IIMs (IIM-Indore specifically since it handling this year’s exam) have roped in the government agency National Informatics Centre (NIC) for help. This agency will host the results which will be sent out to the non-IIM institutes that admit through CAT scores.

NIC provides web hosting services for all government agencies, be it at the Central or State. In fact, when the case of 80 tampered scores came up, the first question asked was, why did the IIMs appoint a private agency like Web Weavers to host the results, when all government agencies use NIC. Not many answers have come in for this question as yet, since this decision was taken by all the IIMs and not the then CAT Convenor alone.

Current CAT Convenor Prof Rohit Kapoor of IIMI said that the exact time of the results has not yet been decided. “We have to think of the load when the results are announced. I want to make sure that my team is around to handle the pressure, if at all.”

This year, compared to the earlier years, there were fewer problems reported during the exam. There were some complaints recorded about wrong questions and they have been ‘apparently dealt’ with. However, the number of people who registered for CAT this year dropped to 1.94 lakhs compared to 2.14 lakh last year which probably indicates that CAT is gradually losing its steam. Blame it on the economy or just bad handling of the results, IIMs will need to do something drastic if they have to keep the halo around this one ‘confidential’ exam.
