Is it a pre-determined precept that a few people are born to be entrepreneurs whereas the rest are born to become conventional routine employees? Is there a concept called “entrepreneurial gene” that helps a person to become different from everyone else? Are entrepreneurs really born or is it possible to develop those set of capabilities within a person?
It is still an unresolved topic and the answers may always spark elements of debate. Safely put, it may be said that a cluster of recent studies have shown that, a chance of inheriting entrepreneurial abilities can’t be denied; but there are scores of real life examples where people have made it to the top of the ladder from very peculiar backgrounds as well. They have refused to accept the idea that entrepreneurship is the outcome of a mix of heredity and environment. Maneuvering our line of thought in this direction let us highlight a few must have qualities of an entrepreneur in today’s time:
1. Passion: To become an able entrepreneur, there should be an unwavering passion or thirst to become different from other people in the league. This passion may be inherent or has to be infused into a willing mind by means of education or other practical means. If you already feel that relentless passion thumping loud inside your heart, then you are one of the few with that extraordinary mark on your forehead.
2. Practical Approach: There is a difference between romanticizing about it, hoping that things would fall into places overnight and putting efforts to make things really work. Opportunities never step in and tell “Here I am, grab me!” Opportunities need to be recognized, grabbed and be shaped to suit the call of the hour. Chances have to be created- people with sharp entrepreneurial abilities understand this very well.
3. Creativity: A good entrepreneur will always have that forward looking approach. He wouldn’t be satiated with the current number(s) of projects at his hands alone. He would be constantly looking ahead to wrap in more number of projects around him. He would always have strategies and execution motives to effect the change in place accepting it as it comes. Always ready to challenge the system- that’s one of the key attributes of entrepreneur.
Nurturing the entrepreneurial zeal is a lifelong learning process. There may be diverse personal characteristics among different entrepreneurs, and yet there would always be a few common attributes. It can’t be learned by reading a lesson from a management textbook, it has to be practiced hard, and step by step.
