19 November,2015: Students outside the MU protesting against the medical negligence, which caused the death of a student.
In November 2015, NIT Durgapur was in news due to the death of a student, Prosenjit Sarkar, NITDGP students protested against the alleged apathy shown by the college administration which led to the Prosenjit’s death. Their demands included better infrastructure especially, medical facilities. After 5 months, NIT Durgapur’s Medical Unit has undergone a transformation.

18 April,2016: The renovated Medical Unit at NIT DGP
The Medical Unit (MU) at NIT Durgapur was the focal point around which the protests were organised. Students referred to the MU as the “Murderer’s Unit” due to its association with frequent student deaths. Students were assured by the MHRD that all their grievances regarding the health facility will be addressed. Renovation of the Medical Unit was a major step in this direction.

Now, the MU has exclusive wards for emergency, eye OPD, Dental OPD, general ward etc.
