The gruelling Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) has claimed another young life, this time around in Farrukhabad, Uttar Pradesh.
Disappointed with his performance in JEE Mains, Vaibhav Pratap Singh, 17, allegedly shot himself at his home in Maseni, Farrukhabad district, on May 21, just a day before JEE Advanced. Vaibhav’s family members rushed him to the nearest hospital where he was declared dead.
When PaGaLGuY spoke to the SHO of Kotwali Police Station, Farrukhabad district, he revealed, “Vaibhav shot himself with his father’s licensed gun when his family members were fast asleep. His family members got up when they heard the gunshot and found Vaibhav seriously injured. The post-mortem report attributed his death to firearm injury. His family revealed that Vaibhav was depressed after he failed to qualify for JEE Advanced 2016.”
Vaibhav had secured 98% in his intermediate class and was also preparing for IIT-JEE at a Bengaluru-based coaching centre. Vaibhav’s father, who is serving as a Havildar in the Indian Army, is in the state of shock. “The reason behind this extreme step is yet to be ascertained as he has left no suicide note,” said SHO Kotwali.
