The institute recently hosted a special workshop on comic creation featuring Mr. Abhijeet Kini, the founder of Abhijeet Kini Studios. Mr. Kini, a Mumbai-based illustrator, animator, and independent comics publisher, is renowned for his comic series and intellectual properties such as “Angry Maushi,” “Bombay Rhymes,” and “Fanboys.” He has received accolades including the Best Illustrator Awards Bronze (2018 and 2019) at the Comic Con India Awards and the Animationxpress CBAM Awards (2021). With over two decades of experience, Mr. Kini has been a regular illustrator for Tinkle Comics since 2004 and also illustrates the Butterfingers book series for Penguin India.

His session was a delightful blend of fun and learning, where he shared his personal journey as a comic book artist and his deep love for pop culture, including comics, movies, and music. He discussed the intricacies of storyboarding, emphasising the importance of special effects, shots, panels, and close-ups. Highlighting “Angry Maushi,” one of his best-selling series as an independent publisher, he provided expert tips on scriptwriting and various art styles, drawing techniques, and expressions.

Mr. Kini explained the structure of comics, covering visuals and dialogues, and showcased his expertise in animation through his YouTube video “Aloo & Sons,” which he animated himself. The session was highly interactive, with group discussions that allowed students and Mr. Kini to exchange ideas and insights.
