As many as 56 companies picked up interns from the Shailesh J Mehta School of Management, Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay in the summer placements for the class of 2011. The institute claimed to have secured the internships for each of the 98 students in the batch in early October 2009 itself.

FMCG and Telecom

About one-third of the offers came from companies like Asian Paints, Cadbury, Colgate-Palmolive, L’Oreal, Marico, ITC, Johnson & Johnson and P&G.; Telecom major Idea Cellular recruited students for Marketing and Operations profiles.

Consulting

Deloitte and Capgemini Business Consulting offered profiles in domains such as IT and Business Strategy. Other consulting majors Frost and Sullivan, Synovate Business Consulting, i2 Technologies and Aqua MCG also participated in the summer placement process, offering profiles in Business advisory, Strategy, Market research and Technology consulting. Global eProcure offered its niche Supply Chain and Sourcing consulting profiles. IIEC, a prominent energy efficiency provider and Dun & Bradstreet, a leading business information provider.

Finance

Nearly 23% of the batch secured internship in the financial domain across profiles such as Investment Banking, Private Equity, Project Finance, Treasury and Corporate finance. Global banking titans like HSBC, JP Morgan Chase, and ICICI Bank participated in the process. A leading private equity firm, Future Capital Holdings offered a Private Equity profile. SBI Capital, Investment Banking and Project advisory major and Future Generali Insurance also offered finance internships. Tata Motors and GE (FMP) offered traditional corporate finance profiles were offered.

Manufacturing and Automotive

Recruiters like BPCL, Croda Chemicals and Cummins offered Marketing profiles while Dr Reddy’s Laboratories and GE Oil & Gas offered Operations roles. Tata Motors offered marketing profiles along with operations and corporate finance.

IT/ITES

“Frost & Sullivan and GE. GE, a traditional recruiter at SJMSOM has offered its coveted leadership profile in Information Management (IMLP). TCS, Wipro, Genpact and eClerx were among other leading companies which offered niche roles like analytics, advisory, and business development,” said the press release.

Class of 2010 start getting Pre-placement offers (PPOs)

As many as 11 students in the class of 2010 received PPOs from companies where they had completed their summer internships. “The PPOs have been offered by foreign banks and companies from the consulting and FMCG sectors,” said the SJM SoM spokesperson.
