The Common Admission Test (CAT) 2011 results have been declared, as per schedule at midnight, January 11, 2012 at http://weaiimcalcat.catiim.in/. You will need your test registration number and email address to access yours.

At midnight time when this reporter tried to open the results webpage to check a colleague’s CAT score, the webpage wouldn’t open. This continued for about an hour and a half. Expectedly, the site had crashed as a result of the overload of users all trying to log in at the same time to catch a glimpse of their CAT percentiles. Discussions on the PaGaLGuY forums were centered around the inability of candidates to check their result due to a choked CAT results website (even as PaGaLGuY itself experienced an unprecedented onslaught of users leading to intermittent outages of its own).

The accessibility of the results webpage improved in the wee hours of the morning, it taking a mere few seconds to access the results PDF file.

This year CAT witnessed a total number of 1.85 lakh test takers, while the total number of registration was 2,05,345. The test was conducted between October 22 and November 18, 2011 at 68 test centres across 36 cities.

Till mid-morning, quite a few students were yet to log in and check their results. Most had the same compaint about the CAT website. Said Arjun Chawla, a CAT candidate, “I could not view my result even till 2 am as a result of the blockage in the webpage. Finally, I could access it at 8 am today.” Arjun Chawla, who scored 75 percentile said that he might take CAT 2012 to better his scores.

Shagun Mittal, another candidate was as irritated. She said, “I tried to log in at midnight, but even hours later, I could not get through. I finally saw my results today at 11 am today. Shagun said he was not convinced about the results and expected better scores. I had performed better in the Verbal Ability (VA) section than in the Quantitaive Analysis section (QA), but the results are not a reflection of that.” Shagun might also take CAT again as she scored a 70 percentile only. .

Some were lucky, like Varun Nair, who saw his results at 12.30 pm. He was however not looking forward to them since he knew he had not scored too well. My performance in the test was way below my expectations. I might take CAT this year too, he said. Some were smarter. Nipun Gupta who scored a 51 percentile viewed his results at 11 am today. I did not log in at midnight at all as I was not expecting much out of this test in terms of my performance. I focussed primarily on Mah-CET and not on CAT, which is why I did not give too much importance to the results either.”

For 90 percentiler Nidhi Jain, it was a firm decision to check the results in the morning, I checked my results only in the morning as I was aware there would be a server issue with the amount of people logging in. Nidhi is not at all happy with her score as she says she will not be able to get into a good b-school.
